Loading chunk 2608 failed - Steam Support says 'The fix is to not use Steam'
Got this error on a bunch of pages within Steam. Contacted Steam support and went through a series of actions to try and fix it to no avail, whereupon they simply told me they had no fix and I should 'use a web browser instead.' Frankly I'm pretty sure an AI wrote the entire conversation but nevertheless...

Anyone here got anything more insightful and useful to say about this? I don't even know what a chunk is!

If there's a problem they're investigating in the Steam Client but the same problem does not occur in a regular web browser, then the workaround is indeed to use a web browser rather than the Steam Client until they figure out what's wrong and fix it.

Sorry, I was unclear. It's not that the workaround isn't logical, its that they are not, in fact, investigating it. The tone of the reply was 'We will be taking no further action'.

The point of this post was to see if anyone knows what this error is about and potentially what causes it.

I've had this problem in the steam client for months now. It won't load steam news, and manually checking for updates doesn't work either. For that matter, whenever I install something from the web browser, I always have to go to downloads and retry it once because it always has a disk write error the first time. (It generally works after retrying, unlike the news or checking for client updates.)

Things like game-specific news and updates for games I have seem to work normally.

EDIT: After deciding to finally do some troubleshooting I'd been putting off (because it's a drag) I managed to fix it. Using steam setup to update didn't do it, so I moved my steamapps and userdata folder somewhere safe, deleted everything in my steam folder, then installed using the steam setup. After running it (but not bothering to log in before closing) I put the folders back in the newly-setup steam folder, then ran the steam client and logged in. This, and nothing I'd tried prior, finally and *actually* updated steam and fixed the news error I had.

Thank you so much for sharing that tip, it allowed me to fix that error which I had for months on the PC Steam client. Cheers!
