when did Steam become moderated by reddit staff?
Only reddit has more ban-happy and power tripping mods than Steam Community, which thankfully still can't apply any permanent bans except for scammers and real criminals.

I remember well that bans were given only to serious harassers, spammers and toxic Aholes that threw profanity and insults in every post.
Nowadays even the slighted hint of disrespect is enough for a ban,

called someone a clown - 2 week ban
said that i hate russia because of their war crimes - 4 week ban
called someone a liar - 3 week ban
made a political topic in Off Topic - 1 week ban
called someone a terrorist scum because they were justifying murder - 2 month ban.

what the hell happened? how is this allowed??
i thought only people aged 16+ are allowed to use steam, so why is our speech policed like we're in a kindergarten???
not even facebook and twitter were this bad!

How you say something is just as important as WHAT you say, I'm sure most people are capable of critiquing something without calling it stupid, no?
that's what the rules are for, stop raising the bar to oppress opinions you don't like.

Funny people bash Christians, Jewish People, Republicans, Americans, and more and that seems to be ok.

He has a point though. You cannot get reported for suggesting that you feel an opinion is ill-informed.
Sure but flat out calling something stupid crosses the line, especially if it's further ingrained in a loaded comment aimed at insulting someone.

Which revolves right back to "how something is said is just as important as what".

For example, calling validity into question is fine and dandy. But going "that's stupid, you're an idiot" crosses the line, no?

there is actually a difference between saying "that's stupid" and "you're stupid".

Present them in a manner that doesn't break ToS?
well it obviously doesn't since they stopped banning people for calling things stupid...
Problem solved then?

there wasn't a problem until you tried to make one... I was simply commenting on some stupid policies steam previously had in the steam discussion forum in a thread about steam moderation.

Well you're aware game hubs are moderated differently than the main hub here, right? I mean, if Devs wanted. They could ban any one of us for having vowels in our names.

And I'm sure if you present enough loaded sentences aimed at insulting someone's intelligence inadvertently without calling the person stupid outright, even Steam moderation would step in to this day.

Personally I find calling something stupid lazy and shows a lack of ability to present one's own argument properly.

that's not really related, and as evidenced from my previous post they indeed do ban people for no legitimate reason on community hubs.

also I find your opinion on the term "stupid" pedantic and close-minded.

It's their space, as I said earlier, they could ban us for having vowels in our names if they deemed it so.

Regardless, I'm sure if you went around calling every reply or topic under the sun stupid, even Steam moderation would likely step in to this day. Now it's just getting cyclical.

Long story short, don't namecall people.

Private buinesses don't have to be fair or neutral.

It took me a long time to learn that fact.

Valve isn't neutral and all the hubs ran by gaming companies have no obligation to be neutral either.

They can ban for any reason the want. It's their property.

I don't like it any better than some other people.

um... what?

1. I wasn't talking about steam banning people on community hubs for saying the word stupid
2. you can have bans issued by steam staff on community hubs reversed
3. https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/0/727997287883667406/?tscn=1739829755#c727997387701807308

what are you actually on about, m8?

I used to frequent a site that one day decided Christians were unwelcome. The instituted a 3 strike rule and permanent ban to people posting Christian or religious discussion, but they were fine with bashing Christianity. Their site, their rules. I left before I got perma banned.

Don't read off topic as Christians, Jewish. Republicans are often called "Nazis".....

Yup, easier to just leave a private place that's unwelcoming. That's what a lot of "freedom of speech" absolutists don't get. Even businesses, can set their own rules, as unfair as they may seem. That won't change until businesses are no longer treated as private entities.

I've seen people get banned for calling these demographics nazis.

Moderation doesn't seek out forums, they react to reported content.

I've been banned for just referencing the other-other-other N-word...
