Go shoot your mouth off in a bar with those same insults and see what happens. A lot more than a ban.
So, yeah.
Also funny that you and your friends are trying to high-five each other when those high-fives don't change anything.
Rules don't really care what they want however.
i can say these words directly to people's faces and the worst consequence i'll suffer is getting insulted in return.
sorry to burst your bubble, but actual adults in the real world can handle a little bit of smack talk. only toddlers are sensetive enough to demand someone to be punished for it

turning steam into an echo chamber just like reddit!
No, that is factually incorrect. Seeing that I was one of the Volunteer moderators back in time I can safely say we banned for light insults.
That is, calling someone an idiot was enough to get them banned. As it is an insult and was against the rules.
If anything, the bar would congratulate me for being the man. Your argument doesn't hold water in that case.
The one causing trouble would have been kicked out of the bar by bouncers.
oh hey Zefar, i remember you, you indeed were a great mod in ye olden times so i belive you.
and although you're right i don't remember you or your peers punishing people for calling others 'clown' or 'liar' which aren't direct insults like 'idiot'
I can say, the global mods did warn/ban users for doing so, yes.
As another volunteer mod oft says in context to arguments on the forum, play the argument not the man, it's less likely to get moderated.
guess they realised just how prevalent that term is in the common vernacular...
Valve understandably has a hands-off approach for the most part but it relies heavily on reports. Reports that sometimes just come from small-minded clowns (yeah, I said it) who decide which topics belong in which category. I had one such recently get my thread (about games) moved to the slime pit that is off-topic and also taunt me with a comment on my profile about having reported me. But Valve are happy, as their report was dealt with and no cost to them other than a few clicks.
Being "stupid" isn't an insult. It more like skill issue. Getting banned for saying "stupid" is ridiculous.
