While it is feasible for you to undertake actions to protect your account ...
... or merely proceed playing Rust without exhibiting an ounce of care in the world.
The choice solely depends on you.
I guess while we on the subject. I got hacked once and was making music on my computer, the guy used the voice generator in the software to say the song was really good and complemented the arrangement. Was super polite for someone that just took over the computer.

Same goes for all anti-cheats. Your account security is YOUR responsibility.
There are no visible, permanent bans on the account that you are posting from right now or the account that is on your friends list.
Regardless of whichever account you are referring to, as you were told, account security is your responsibility. You are also responsible for any actions on the account.
Valve doesn't care who used the account to cheat, it only matters that cheating occurred.
You are responsible for the confidentiality of your login and password and for the security of your computer system. Valve is not responsible for the use of your password and Account or for all of the communication and activity on Steam that results from use of your login name and password by you, or by any person to whom you may have intentionally or by negligence disclosed your login and/or password in violation of this confidentiality provision.
Valve is not responsible for the use of your Account by a person who fraudulently used your login and password without your permission.

The "It wasn't me it was the cheater" excuse doesn't work anymore because cheaters ruined it.

The community abused Valves' leniency, so they were forced to adopt the actual policy.
The question should be, why are most people who had such stuff Happen ask months/years later if they could do something.
And as he seems to talk about some "private" rust servers no one on here could do anything either way.
But why did He still pay for a vip account the last 2 years (if I understand his post correctly) at those servers if He could not Play anymore?
