My bad we allready asked him xd

No, I'm specifically talking about Microsoft updates to the Windows NT 6.1.7601 operating system.
Current release appears to be:
6.1.7601.27216
Hey, ntfs.sys got updated too. Neat!
6.1.7601.27219
I'm finding several system files with that version number.
imo you shouldn't xd
The installation log of UpdatePack 7 / 2008 R2 / 24.7.10
Installation start time - 2:22:08 28.07.2024
Operating system - Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
the last security patch is KB5040497 and it's 27216 xd
tcpip.sys is 27218 as exemple and its from the same kb but file is from 28 june when ntfs.sys is from the 24th june
True there is some with 27219 like appinfo.dll , from the 1st july but they are not counting to determine the os level which is 27216 ( kernel32.dll and ntoskrnl.exe )
just follow my old post about csv file
Are you familliar with msu package @Crashed ?
Have you allready tryed to download one just by curiosity ? let's say the last rollup security KB5040497 ?
i know it's my fav one atm xd
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5040497
so let's say you will download both x64 , the one for windows 7 embedded and the other one for windows server 2008r2
both are different sku right , windows 7 embedded is not windows server 2008r2 , that's for sur xd
now after you have saved both files somewhere on hdd, what can you tell us about both files ?
you will also need 7z and HashMyFiles, because well let's say sha256 is weak( 7z native ) and this little tools can do a better job as shah512/sha384 gives less possibility for files collision xd
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/hash_my_files.html
https://www.7-zip.org/
i think we will continue tomorrow @Crashed as it's late here and time for me to sleep.
Bonne nuit

ok
let's continue so.
the first step
after you downloaded both files, rename them like windows6.1-kb5040497-r2.msu for window server 2012r2 and the other one like windows6.1-kb5040497-w7.msu for windows 7 embedded and launch the litle tool hashmyfile and open both files with it and check sha512 or sha384 because , well it's more accurate than sha256 no ? xd
and compare value for both files, seems the same no ? it means the file are strickly identicals in term of content , size as showed by the sha value
second step
right click on each and extract them to their own folder and open the file Windows6.1-KB5040497-x64-pkgProperties.txt inside each of the folder ;
They are the same, even if one file is for windows 2012 server r2 and the other one is for windows 7 embedded
and this is what is been used by dism to install theses packages on w7 .
i wasn't able to get the script used by the nis setup during install but it's what i've understood .
so if you know how just to extract the install script used by the nsis package(always call it nis instead of nsis ...), feel free to share it .
I don't feel the need to dig deeper into the subject than that . i will just wait the next patch to see if it apply the whole things or just the new one and after i will free my vm
Thank you for your insight and clarification, I was getting all excited about how fresh and shiny my Windows 7 OS is. :D
Yes, this does make sense. I will take a more in-depth look into the next UpdatePack7 that should be out soon (August). I've never looked into which system files were being updated but I do find it interesting.
My thanks to the update crew at Microsoft, contributors to UpdatePack7 and the Windows 7 community for making this possible and keeping everything running so smoothly.
aye despite some filles have higher version release, there are not counting for the real release number ( remember an old post about powershell value and the hklm value under regedit - real release nimber )
UpdatePack7 doesn't update Windows 7. It never will. Not today. Not in August. Not next year. NEVER.
Windows 7 is done. It will never be updated ever again from Microsoft. What part of "no more updates ever again" do you not understand?
