Windows 7 April Update
July UpdatePack7 2024.7.10 is out and is running fine for me. I've installed it on several of my Win7 machines and no issues to report.

I'm sure that there are many Win7 users out there that are unaware of these monthly updates. My experience has been very good since I started using them in 2021. One download will update a fresh install of Windows 7 SP1 to current day (or you can update the ISO before installing). Save time and bandwidth, it's basically SP2.

Steam seems fine. No real issues to report.

If you have any suggestions on improving the stability or utility of Windows 7 please share with us.

did I say updates you click on in
your PC through windows updates?

no, I said on the internet...

that being said, do you seriously think microcraps update servers can't be compromised?

:lunar2019crylaughingpig:
I spoke of the updates we download from Windows Update in my comment then you directly quoted me in your response. So that means yes: that is what we were discussing, that is what you were responding to and yes that is what you meant with your response. If you didn't mean microsoft's servers through windows update then maybe you shouldn't of quoted and responded to my comment.

Also yes: Out of all of these years since the mid-1990's where they pushed updates for Windows 95 over the internet through current day Windows 11 there has never been a virus, malware, or any infection in any official update from microsoft's servers.

I would go so far as to say yes: Microsoft's servers would never be infected with a virus or malware and distribute that to millions of customers globally as a windows update. To even suggest such a thing is possible is beyond laughable.

wrong, you spoke of downloading from the internet, ie.. the update pack the thread is about.

and wrong again, that's not at all what you claim I was talking about.

also, if you think Microsoft updates and/or it's servers can't be compromised/etc... then you must be knew to all this, internets and PC's stuff.

That's not at all what I wrote. You know that's what I wrote. You're making up nonsense just to try and anger me and try to get me to argue with you. Nice try but I can see what you're doing. Argument baiting is supposed to be against the rules in the steam forums but the moderators never enforce it.

several of your replies to me mentioned downloading from the internet.

lying, arguing and making false claims about my comment and all of yours, isn't going to work.

mods for games aren't official either, guess according to another in this thread, they aren't safe and should not be downloaded, so don't mention people should download any thing unless it's from the devs, or part of steam.... someone claimed you can be punished.

also, don't download anything from the net, it's all from random people you don't know.

:lunar2019laughingpig:

that being said, my win 7 install is running great, plays/runs everything installed, including latest steam, blizzard app and much more.
There always a risk whenever downloading random things from the net that a fact. If it's a an application then regard as a way higher threat possibility than mods that using just textures replacement files.

The main issue when comes to 3rd party updates package is downloading things that not open source with no way to check, or even verify what the app going to be doing without running it, and have to think about this, if person just offer Microsoft stuff, why package it in a odd way instead of just handing the source file directly, unless it doing things differently with those files by altering it which should be considered of that risk.

Trust is finicky when comes to random downloads, and we heavily rely on trust, and anti virus to provide that mental security.

That why I rather trust how to verify file, than being unable to verify file from a rando that pushes apps claiming to be update that likely been alter, that why open source, and verifying things is the way to go giving that very trust.

Anyways I warn people, and if things hit the fan, they know why, even though some people might do backup/recovery doesn't means data been protected, and worse case scenario, is people making backup/recovery when they had install virus, I actually seen people do 3rd party downloads of unofficial apps, and stuff make these backup/recovery discs, and blames companies, and Microsoft for it while they fail to realize they themselves created backup/recovery disc with virus on them.

But it is what it is.

The people that made this fake updater will never hand out the original source files they used because they want to do it like this on purpose. They take these new (wrong updates for the wrong windows) and modify them then repackage them and then spam around the internet as "LOOK EVERYONE! THERE'S NEW UPDATES FOR WINDOWS 7!" so that people will grab their program and install it thinking they're actually updating their Windows 7 computers. No one tells anyone that this ain't actually got any new win7 updates in it. And we will never know what "other things" this fake updater does when we run it either because we can't have the source to it.

I know, they think NET Framework update is a kernel security update when it's not, any existing flaws, and bugs remains since there no more patches to these anymore.

Just to let you guys know I have been silently moderated (my latest post deleted) again in this thread. :)

I assume this post will "go poof!!" very soon too, but no matter, just wanted to let you guys know.

To mods - at least have the courtesy to contact me to tell me which rules I broke, needing such drastic actions (deleting posts without follow up)!?

hello

i know i've seen that ....2 of your post has been deleted , one before the weekly shutdown and the next one just after ...and none of them were violate rules by oposite this one just above your post

which is clearly baiting argument and trolling...

Examples of disrespectful content include:
Trolling or baiting arguments

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do ... we just have to accept ...

I managed to extract all the setup tools used by the updatepack and discovered how it works to setup the update:
it's using dism... not the one we have on your comp, as showed by my last screenshot but one from the kb itself

instead of flaming, you should just report. that is just some advice. some users tries to provoke a reaction. best way to avoid their bait is to ignore and report.

I've tried.. believe me I've tried. I've reported every single damn comment that MonkehMaster writes as argument baiting (which is what they are doing). The moderators don't give a rat's hairy butt about it and just let them continue even though they are very clearly violating steam's forum rules.

i think it have to do with your steam level. a steam level of 0 gives you 0 respect from the moderators. now: i am not sure how you can increase it. you can likely find that out somewhere. i simply do not know.
