There absolutely is a reason and it's well documented because this has happened before.

Very few users use it anymore as the data shows. On top of that as support has ended from MS, it gets increasingly hard to keep supprting something less and less people use.

It's purely diminishing returns.


Just update to windows 10 or 11 - it works better for the most part anyway.

It probably is just a shortcut to install the app, and not the app itself.
At least 90% of ms store apps on a fresh install are just links, and not pre-installed.... besides those from ms itself.

It seems, they're slowly making changes that make steam less functional on W7. Big picture was working just fine for me because without it, I couldn't go online to join friends ingames, now they have broken even that.

Sorry for the hate you get here. I don't mind it but sometimes the saloon gets a little crazy. I think objectively Windows 7 is better than 10 or 11 by far. It has far less bloat. It is faster and has less telemetry. I also understand why you wouldn't want to upgrade just to play a game you already own.

1. have you ever thought of bailing from Steam and moving to retro consoles or PC from the past?

2. Have you thought of moving to SteamOS? Maybe in VirtualBox if your computer can handle it.

3. Buying Steam Deck or alternative and hooking it up to monitor?

Remember the rules of all PC games today: You don't own them. In order to play them you must submit to spyware and finally as you are experience you must follow their rules.
