I put Steam in some kind of console mode?
When I launch Steam, it takes me to an app page, instead of my normal, old school, Steam Interface.

I can't seem to switch it back.

How do I reset the whole steam app with reinstallation?

Sadly I do this regularly now i have no idea what I do but bang out of the blue it starts up on the Big Pic Mode and I have to make it go away.

I don't even know what it's for or why I would want/need it lol.

I must look this up on Google one day :-)

Here, I'll give you a hand and maybe research it a little myself:

EDIT:

Yeah, Big Picture mode just puts Steam into a console mode (game controller).

Maybe you use a controller for PC Gaming and maybe it triggers Big Picture mode? Just a guess as I don't use controllers.

There’s a hard coded shortcut that launches big picture mode if you press the guide button on a controller while Steam has focus.

My hatred for Steam Console Mode is immense...
Big Picture Mode used to be good, but now it’s trash
Hmm, I had some swordplay with this sh**ty BigPictureMode. Tried to adjust the font size that Steam uses but seems that it can only be done if you use BigPictureMode which I won't. 4K in full resolution in 32" flat is just too+ damn small.

Spent several hours to find an override to steam that forces it use bigger font. But alas, in vain.

Running on manjaro/proton 9.0-4 - everything works otherwise pretty well.

From Brave Browser AI:

Steam Big Picture Mode
Steam Big Picture mode is designed for a more comfortable gaming experience on a TV with a game controller. It offers a full-screen user interface optimized for readability and interaction on a TV screen, allowing users to navigate Steam and play games without a mouse or keyboard.

To enter Big Picture mode, you can click the dedicated button in the top right corner of the Steam interface.
Alternatively, you can use a keyboard shortcut by pressing Alt+Enter.
Exiting the mode can also be done using the same keyboard shortcut or by pressing ESC and clicking the Power icon.

Big Picture mode is supported on Windows 7 and above, macOS 10.11 or later, and Linux machines running up-to-date versions of Ubuntu.
However, some users report that it can freeze or cause issues with their systems, especially if they do not have a powerful enough PC.

To disable Big Picture mode from starting automatically, you can go to Settings > Interface and toggle off the "Start Steam in Big Picture Mode" option.

Some users prefer regular Steam mode over Big Picture mode due to reduced functionality or display issues when using a TV as the main screen.
Others find it useful for playing games on a TV with a game controller.

If you encounter issues with Big Picture mode, such as it starting automatically when you do not want it to, you can follow these steps to disable it:

Open Steam and exit Big Picture mode using Alt+Enter.
Go to Settings > Interface.
Disable "Start Steam in Big Picture Mode."
Close and reopen Steam.
For more information and support, you can visit the Steam Community forums or the official Steam Support page.
