Why do steam mods not know what the steam forum rules are?
Is it a language barrier? Whats the deal.

Any guesses?

3rd or even 2nd language speakers usually never learn or deal with context. Suddenly your mom is a horse (Chinese thing).

Germanic like slavic languages have the means to learn either without much trouble because said language groups are super flexible not to mention love borrowing Latin or any other language and then turning those into native sounding words like Japanese with katakana/English.

The other issue stems from quotas they have to fill, so instead of reading the posts like most mods used to do on most forums, they just read the title and maybe the first sentence and move unto the next ticket.

It wouldnt be a problem if they just translated the rules right?

Seems to me like they just look at reports and go by.. whatever dweebs reporting want, even without looking into whats happening or attempting to understand.

I get it, you have a lot of work to do. Just sucks we let randoms mass report for nothing and steam support just clicks a few buttons.

Then you message them saying 'uhh.. i did nothing wrong' and they click a single button and it pastes a paragraph back to you thats canned phrase basically proving they did no work or research or care at all about what is actually happening'.

Can you tell us more? What did they do?

They let randoms mass report for nothing.

And the steam mods flat out dont understand the rules or care enough to even look at whats happening.

They just see: PLAYER X REPORTED 2x, MUST BE TRUE -> BAN.

Ban appeal support -> DO NO RESEARCH TO MAKE SURE WE DID IT RIGHT -> CLICK NO BUTTON ONCE

The real irony here is one of the main problems with dota 2 is people reporting for nothing. So their nonsense has carried over lol.

It the native speakers who cannot comprehend their own language. Non native speakers actually use English correctly then most.
My long post got deleted (thanks steam app)... Anyway, when work hours turn into quotas, i.e instead of making instant coffee for the next 8hrs, it instead turns into making 100k instant coffee bottles, people become rather lax, because instead of doing your job as intended you are just filling a bar, and this mentality spreads like wildfire to the point of becoming the norm.

The mods are outsourced. It is likely a call center in a foreign country where English is not the first language. They teach them to look for key words, then they ban based on those key words and copy paste a response from an internal wiki. Even the workers who can read it a bit don't understand subtleties or non-literal speech.

I was once banned for "off topic" because I used an analogy. When I appealed, they saw the "ban" keyword, and I got a copy pasted "applied correctly" response. I appealed again and got a real English speaker who was like "WTF is this? I reversed your ban and removed it from your record, sorry that happened to you."

I am also convince that the recent ban waves on the forums that soured people on the moderation was the results of them testing AI based moderation.
^ this pretty much. ABK already use LLMs for support. And just like how some company will never admit to having a bad product by filtering/removing bad reviews, Valve will never admit to outsourcing.

lol yea once i got banned for 'spamming the same topic' because I....

Used a word in both threads. Which is flat out insane because MANY words would overlap. Thats how english works lmao.

I agree, what set moderation from other websites like Facebook and Twitter X is that the moderation team doesn't care about whining users. A large company like steam could have a dedicated team they look over the report and the content.

Politics, other websites express strict neutrality and that type of moderation works well with Facebook and Twitter X. I have to ask how can I have so many bans in this website steam compared to Facebook and Twitter X and not one ban in 10 years?

The answer is simple, steam has chosen on the side of wokeism and left camp politics. Other websites doesn't follow those two above.

It's time for drastic changes at steam moderation or take down the community forums as it's not worth saving.

It's funny that Europeans that they speak English unable to understand American English. Even they are close but differ in vocabulary and placement of words.

I got someone telling me that they couldn't understand my English. I was like "hello, I am speaking American English". It's obvious either the person I was talking to is a troll or their translator is malfunctioning.

Your English is actually just not that good, you make a lot of weird grammar mistakes and have frequent spelling errors. If you told me your first language wasn't English, I'd believe it.

Yup, I am hearing impaired and American Sign language is my first language.
Oh, it's not Khmer?
Because they don't give a single :DSTpoop: about it. They will do whatever they want and you can't do anything about it. Kinda. I mean sure, there is a court and such, but it's just troublesome. The whole system is messed up and bad overall. So yeah, hypocrisy etc. at its finest :lol13: :lmao_emily:

bruuuuuh. It's kinda sad to see how much of a pure :pftr_trash::garbagecan: Steam had become :LIS_poker_face:
Yup. Not a surprise at all. I just got banned for "inflammatory" content, which is by the way very subjective.
And the best part is that my comment was very similar to another one that didn't get deleted.
When I report actual insults, nothing happens. Comment is still there after one day.
What is with this system?

Reported a bait thread and they got removed in seconds.

Reported a carbon-copy of the aforementioned bait thread (prob like 4-5 mins after), still up for 3 days.

Game hub mods in a nutshell :mspoo:
