Good gladiator-like game

Hey all,

Just watched Gladiator 2 and it was a fun movie. But while watching the movie it got me thinking; is there a good gladiator game that is similar to the premise of the movie?

Captured as a prisoner, have to fight to earn his freedom.

It doesn't have to be a first-person game, it can also be a strategy game. But it has to have that slave-to-freedom theme.
