Yup, and the WEBSITE Steamcommunity.com is predominantly a community forum for user generated content, its used for sharing images too, and even our profiles where no user generated content can be shared are on the steamcommunity.com website.
Yep, well we'll see if this passes. It made it thru the Senate pretty easy. The House may punt it, but may guess is, with these new folks the criteria may be even more punitive, particularly with this "woke' craze going on.
They used to be separate, but then got merged into one. So Steam is still not included as an online platform.
Nope, because it says "website" in the definition. Steamcommunity.com is the website. It having a link to a store doesn't mean anything for this. Steampowered.com is the store that is predominantly for buying games, where as Steamcommunity.com is a website that is predominantly used for social media purposes. Can I buy games at Steamcommunity.com? no. What can I do at Steamcommunity.com?
Now what's Valves actual site say? In big, giant, bold letters it says "At Valve we make games, Steam, and hardware. "
None of that displays any form of social media is their primary business model. This has been discussed over and over, at this point I am not within the logical belief that anyone arguing it's social media is doing so from any point of good faith, likely intentionally so in order to try getting government to act upon them as if they were social media.
The storefront is still the predominant service of Steam.
It would also help to read the comment you're quoting since I said nothing about income of Steam.
I took it down. I was responding to Mad Scientist and quoted you by mistake. But the comment a correct one.
Scientist also made no comment about the income of Steam.
Dude, using your wrong logic here, someone just needs to buy Twitter while having a much bigger business, with the stated goal of their business of selling stuff, and then all of a sudden Twitter wouldn't be definded as a social media platform/website and wouldn't have to adhere to any of the laws governing social media platforms.
To put it short, you are not correct at all, not even a little bit.
Steamcommunity.com is the website, it is absolutely irrelevant what the parent company does as their main business, it doesn't change the fact that the website Steamcommunity.com is a social media platform as defined by the law.
Actually, forums aren't social media under law. In fact, it's missing quite a few things that make it considered social media. Hence why every piece of legislation that targets social media makes not mention of forums like the Steam community.
Right, in another words, i'm posting on this site, separated from the Steam Client. For me to buy or play a game, i have to sign onto the client, to get access to my games, or to buy games.
And so this apparently separate from that.
Very rarely do pieces of legislation mention companies by name. They just describe what they are, as the piece of legislation explained exactly what a gaming outlet or company or online outlet, and gives strict exceptions, where this company is not exempt (schools, broadband companies etc).
