How would steam handle banned games once America goes Theocratic?
Lots of games in the top lists on steam have themes of elder gods (BG3, souls like genre), ♥♥♥ (visual novels), anti state violence/resistance (GTA / almost every FPS ever).

These things would definitely be in the radar to purge in the future Christian America.

How would steam handle this?
Delete your library? Just lock the games out?

As a user should I document ownership in case the worst case occurs?

Since Valve is a US based company, if sweeping rules against certain kinds of content were passed at a federal level, they would have no choice but to remove them.

However I think they would keep those games to a degree. You wouldn't be able to download or play them, but they would remain associated with your account, even if not visible to the end user. The store pages would either be hidden, or just replaced with a notice about how the game was banned and isn't available.

Then, if/when things settle and such a ban is lifted, all Valve would have to do is flip that switch to make the games available again, and anything you had purchased previously would still be there.

"If" is a great way to start a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ conversation. "If" doesn't require any probability/plausibility analysis, an "if" is happily used to come up with the most outrageous of theories. An "if" is a great "excuse" to waste mental resources sources of everyone involved to deal with situations of arbitrary imaginablity.

:deeperperiscope: If a hypothetical theocratic purge by the U. S. government has progressed to the point where the Bill of Rights is simply irrelevant there will be many more pressing issues than the content of my Steam account.

You are under the assumption that this would happen in the first place.

That is all I need to know about your argument.

This right here. If you are more worried about your gaming proclivities than you are about other far more important things then I worry more about you and your future then I do gaming in general.

People act like the US hasn't been like this before.

Japanese Internment Camps?
Operation W****** in the 60s?
Jim Crow?
McCarthyism?

Did the Bill of Rights matter then?

They can do that. But they would still have to adhere to our laws to do business here...

More likely; New Zealand. Isn't that where GabeN resides nowadays?
It’s not 2004, you can drop the “le republicans are theocrats” thing now.

Bush didn’t do it, Trump didn’t do it in 2016, it’s not going to happen in 2024 either.

Valve would handle that as it does it now for countries in which games are not allowed (or valve not want to put in the work to follow laws so that they could be sold)..... it won't offer that stuff in those countries.

Remember what theocratic means and what the first amendment is for.

The things you mentioned were more focused around the politics at the time and something different then religious freedom.

In fact Christianity is at an all time low in the states and unless they start worshiping Zeus only there is not much more that would work in the region.

I feel like in the USA, laws against Christians would be more likely to happen.

Neither the Bill of rights, or the Constitution means squat to the Supreme Court.
