Ati Mobility Radeon HD 4200 enough for Gmod?
I have a gaming PC, but I wanted to get a cheap laptop just enough to run gmod and minecraft so I was just wondering if this could play Gmod at about 20fps on low settings? Also I know integrated chips are awful for gaming but I don't want to spend to much as I will only be using it now and again.

Here are the Specs:

2.10 GHZ duo core
Gpu: Ati Mobility Radeon HD 4200
Ram: 2GB
Hard drive: 100Gb

But it should work without problems ...

The 4200 is DirectX 10.1 and the recommended is DirectX 9 but I've looked on other sites and people are saying it wouldn't be any good at all, but for me 20 fps is playable

You would probably be able to scrape 20 FPS with the graphics settings turned down. Try some other Source games from Valve such as Team Fortress 2 (it's free!) and you should get an idea of what to expect.

Problem is I havn't got the laptop yet, what specs do you have?

I hope then that you are getting it for free, or close to free. For gaming, it's not going to be much use at all.

What is the lowest laptop GPU that can run Gmod at about 25-30 fps on low or medium settings?

Intel HD Graphics (1st generation) could run Source games at around 30-40 FPS on low-mid settings. That's the closest comparison I can make from personal experience. These are in laptops around 3-4 years old, though. They've improved drastically since then. The Intel HD 4000 series would run them on high settings at 60 FPS easily.

Okay thanks I'll have a look at some others

I've played gmod on a laptop with the same specs. Except it had 4gigs of ram, and a bigger HD It ran ok. Don't recall the exact graphic settings, but I don't think they needed to be at the lowest.

Was also able to run a good many triple A titles on it without issue as well, albeit on the lowest settings.

All graphics component can run games, the question is how well will it run. Gmod is based on a CPU heavy engine so you will most likely run it quite well.

If you are an advanced user, you can run the game in DX 8 and run some tweaks like reduced graphics or sound quality.

With your PC I would rate the FPS 2/5; It will run from 10-40 fps with stock settings and big resolution, with DX 8 probably 50 - 80(will look like garbage but more playable).
