How about considering Windows 7 still reliable operating system
Despite being released over a decade ago, Windows 7 remains a popular operating system among computer users. In fact, according to recent statistics, Windows 7 is still being used by more people than Windows 10. There are several reasons why this might be the case.

One reason is that many people find the user interface of Windows 7 to be more familiar and user-friendly than the UI of Windows 10. Windows 7 features a classic Start menu and taskbar, which many users prefer over the tile-based interface of Windows 10.

Another reason why Windows 7 remains popular is that it is generally considered to be a more stable and reliable operating system. This is especially true for users who are running older hardware, as Windows 7 tends to run more smoothly on older machines than Windows 10.

Despite this, there are some key differences between the system requirements of Windows 7 and Windows 10 that users should be aware of. First and foremost, Windows 10 requires a more powerful computer than Windows 7, particularly in terms of CPU, RAM, and hard drive space. Windows 10 requires a modern processor with at least two cores, at least 4 GB of RAM, and at least 64 GB of storage space.

In comparison, Windows 7 has much lower system requirements, and can run on older hardware with as little as 1 GB of RAM and a single-core processor. This means that if you are using an older computer, or have limited resources, you may find that Windows 7 performs better than Windows 10.

Ultimately, the choice between Windows 7 and Windows 10 comes down to personal preference. While Windows 7 may be more familiar and stable for some users, Windows 10 offers a range of new features and improvements that can make it a better choice for others.

If Steam stops supporting Windows 7 in 2024, players will no longer be able to access and play Dota 2 or any other games on that operating system. Therefore, it is recommended for players to upgrade to a newer version of Windows or another supported operating system before that time to continue playing Dota 2 and other games on Steam.

✔️Possible non returning
players using

other platform using window 7..

It's difficult to predict the future with certainty, but if Steam were to stop supporting Dota 2 in 2024, there could still be other platform clients where players can continue to play the game. However, it's important to note that without Steam's support, some features of the game may become unavailable, such as matchmaking and automatic updates. In this scenario, players may have to rely on community servers or other third-party solutions to continue playing Dota 2.

Hello

Upgrading the backend ? What kind of backend are you aware of that valve will upgrade ?

It's the embedded browser, they've been upfront about it.

...nd while there are still hurdles and issues, there are also ways forward with minimal losses.
Hello

Do not worry i know about the steam client , i was just curious about the backend and i hope he would be able to share with us some good and interresting informations about that but i do not think it will happend because he have none ...

And about an online ms acccount, it's just the start imo

After all ms have the right to do whatever this company want till there people accepting everything and to justify everything ms have done and will do.

The real contender for valve is not epic like many thought, no more than gog or gmg, no the real contender is ms because it allready have a valid "ecosystem" ( consol, os, tablet, etc ) and a store ( with game, pass, etc ... ) and studio ( blizzard , etc ) ...
Why can't we imagine ,in the future, something like apple did for the ms "écosystem" ? Laws can change for the good or the bad... Especially when theses kind of company have so many money and interrests.

And i am nearly sur someone at valve has the same point of view about that else what's the point of throwing money into proton and deck ? for business sur but also to start building their own "ecosystem"

Windows 7 is a risk as shown here https://www.cvedetails.com/product/17153/Microsoft-Windows-7.html?vendor_id=26

You can see plenty of vulnerabilities from 2020 to current. And some of these are very serious issues that have never been patched in Windows 7 (some were patched for ESU customers).

No developer is going to waste time on an OS that has security risks, that are unpatched.

And don't say you have an anti virus as it's not the job of security software to detect vulnerabilities, it's Microsoft's job to fix them.
Hello

Imo you should take time and read the link you posted just to understand some of it csv ...
Have you checked the store page recently ? how many newly games still have w7 as a minium requierement ?

I understand it very well, hence why multiple developers are dropping support for a dead OS.

No one will waste time on development for an OS that has security flaws.

Also the weak arguement about Windows 7 being minimum, as there are games on Steam that were supported on Windows 98. Should Valve start supporting Windows 98 again? Of course not.

They are updating the backend. The Steam client is a glorified webbrowser. Windows 7 lacks the required components to properly work with it.

As was told in other topics Firefox will continue working on Win7 and is even not dependant on system security.
It is funny how many Win10 text warriors come here to defend something that can be easy replaced by other backend with precise people that work in industry.
Something that has nothing to do with actual games as they will continue to work on Win7.
Half-life 2 will still work on WIn7. :)

VALVe in multiBillion company that can hire even kernel programmers and code even own bank system for any OS they want.

As explained multiple times, Steam uses CEF and it is heavily integrated into the client.

It would take them years to effectively migrate everything to a new infrastructure and that's only if another exists.

Hellp
what's does not work ? v99 chromium will be the last one supporting w7 and then ? What's the problem ?
Just change the update script like that ;
if version-os is < w10 then do not update else update
Not too hard to code.

You don't have to change from something that's working.

You can stay in Win7 and just make the choice of not using the Steam client.
