Nearing 50,000 games ignored
Something is to be said about how Steam will allow anything to be uploaded for sale on their platform. I have been having a good laugh lately at how bad it has become.

Currently, mobile games with in game purchases that circumvent Steam are the all the rage. I have seen well over 40 candy crush knockoffs and poker games in my suggest games from Steam. I guess because I played Idle Champtions a while back.

For example: mobile game with in game purchases
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2218370/Thunderbolt_Poker/

I have also noticed a slew of copy pasta games, where the developers are not even trying. They will put up 20 games or more in a month. I guess if you throw enough at the wall, something might stick. Maybe someone will accidentally buy one?

We have many games to look forward to though, of asset flips and generic game releases by one off developer names. I have seen a couple that accidentally released the same game under different developer names. I guess they lost track. I used to find it frustrating, but now it is just comical. Steam will publish anything.

TL;DR- didn't read the entre thread because i don't need to see people arguing about how many apps Steam has in its store right now, or the usual "Well, don;t buy them, then." comments. So if someone else has mentioned this already- my apologies for skipping from Page 1 to Page 4 and missing it.

I will say that I have been seeing more and more "mass publishing" of games by certain developers and publishers, that either price the games ridiculously high but offer huge bundles at 90%+ discounts, or publish a large number of games that look exactly the same or with a very slight reskinning and renaming- many of which look suspiciously like asset flips from various game engine stores, some with many ties found between the various names they are using for development and publishers.

I mark them all Ignored, but it smells a lot like Digital Homicide and Silicon Echo and the asset flip games they sold under multiple alts. Not saying those two are back at it, but it looks too similar to ignore. Perhaps other people trying to rehash the same technique, hoping Valve and consumers will have already forgotten it all, or are new enough to the platform that they never heard of them.

yeah, it'd be nice if they did some quality control or let us report games for being spam/shovelware/etc. and took care of them if enough reports were filed.

Considering whaty you're asking requires psychic powers..it's probably not gonna be a thing. YOu can ghower just click on the developer/publisher name and see what other games they've got on the platform. That's pretty basic level research.

As for 'games worth buying'

the definition of a game worth buying is by nature going to vary from gamer to gamer.
There are ways that Steam could better the situation, but I am not holding my breath. The specific banking and contact information given to Steam, for example, which can identify the multiple so called developers and publishers to one exact same account. Again, I am not expecting anything to change on this. Even seeing bestiality games now on the store, though I do report those.

I enjoy having a large friends list with people who are also gamers of many different styles of games. While I would prefer to be more adventurous, even be the first person to try a game that an indie developer releases, I find myself enjoying the experiences and opinions of the fellow gamers around me.

I hope to continue to grow my friends list and expand that, as well as share my experiences with them in kind. We do not have to agree with what games are best or even good, but generally, most can conclude which games are the cash grab and low effort ones to avoid.

The only Beast game I've ever seen on Steam involved Dolphins.
So, I'm not sure how you found those games, but I'm a bit concerned.

Adult Only content of that type isn't expressed banned, but it's not something one would put up her.e

Indeed. I have only seen a few times they actually removed games, but that was because YouTubers with an audience called those games out specifically. One YouTuber that I especially enjoy is Let's Game it Out. Used to be Anthony and Josh, which was funny in a whole different way. With just Josh, it is just as funny, but in a different aspect. I hope that Anthony became a voice actor. He had a great talent with voices and accents.

This was a full on wolf with a human female and cat mix. It popped up in my suggested, and I was flabbergasted that was somehow approved. Since that, I question if their is any screening process at all or is it just everything is fair game (pun slightly intended).

I have not seen the dolphin one yet, but if I do, I will report it. I stream on YouTube, but not focused on games. However, I stream games every now and then. I would hate for that to pop up in the back when a game crashes and that is on the front page as a suggested game. With games like Kerbal Space Program and Oxygen Not Included, they do sometimes crash to the desktop like that. I have to remember to keep Steam minimized past launching a game, just in case, since I stream on a different computer and do a monitor capture to include it.

Except you can't report those games, because they're not against the rules on STeam.
That game sounded like a Furry game.

You also can't report them.

Those games also cannot pop up like you suggest.
You're trying to find worst case scenarios that never really happen.

Plus, you can disable all Adult Content if you really want.

Well, it happens rather often, so I could screenshot my Steam front page and show you an example that happens about once every week or two. And, it was not furry, as I ignore those as a weird perversion. This was a full on animal. I was given a great view of the demonstration video of the game, while reporting it.
That's weird, for certain.

But again, there is no rule against that game, so reporting it is a bit odd.
The rules about what is allowed are abundantly clear.

Sure, I wouldn't want to see it, but it's hardly a war crime.

Indeed. I will get a provocative game that will occasionally show up in the first featured scrolling box on the front page of Steam. Considering how often I frequent it, I guess you can say it is rare, as it refreshes every time the page is refreshed.

Bestiality is illegal in many countries, as is selling or distributing that material. That would make it illegal for Steam to partake in that as even the passive distributor in which you can buy the game from.

Except that is not how this works.
Steam obeys the laws in the United States before it does any others.
Drawings of Beast stuff is literally not illegal anywhere in the United States.
Drawn PORN is literally not illegal in many many many countries.
Go to Germany and show them bad drawn porn of Nazis, and they will literally not arrest you.

You have confused the actual law regarding said Beast stuff, with drawings of it.
And even in the United States, the actual act is legal with something akin to a Horse in 37 States.

And where it is illegal, it is punishable by animal cruelty laws.
Which are extremely minor.

In fact, in no country is it punishable by Death.

You cannot report content on Steam for being illegal if it is not real people.
By definition, that is the only way it can be illegal. Ever.

That escalated quickly. I was not expecting to start talking about death penalties. Anyhow, I suppose that could be true. That is disturbing, regardless. I will still report them when I see them. I am not sure how pornography has taken into being called a video game, regardless of morality of the material included. Perhaps, that is a challenge for some people, lol!

The game store page has a section that tells you why Steam thinks a game may be of your interest. Checking it may give you information about why those games are shown to you.

Although I'd bet on the fact of you having so many game ignored makes the recommendation algorithms go wrong and the system is just scrapping the deep bottom of the barrel to find something left you haven't blocked yet.

I have not blocked even a third of the games on Steam. As such, I highly doubt that, unless there is a very wide bottom of the barrel. Typically, the reasoning is very vague and associated games very loosely. However, I play many different genres and styles of games. I have around 130 perfect games, for those that have achievements, and beat many more that do not have achievements associated to the game or do not count towards that. I do not limit myself to a certain style of games. As such, the suggested games included almost every kind of game there is.

I get many lewd game recommendations because I play Cyberpunk, and get many puzzle games because I played TableTop. I would never spend money on a jigsaw puzzle game, but that is just me.
True there is a boat load of trash on Steam but I guess it's just an opinion, someone might like paying 50 bucks for a game that has 1 texture.
Too much shovelware/asset flips and knock-offs.

They really should have a curation system to filter out the junk.

At a certain point the increasing amount if garbage actually hinders Steam's ability to personalize your feed and show customers what they'd probably actually buy.
it would be better to give us what we want 90% and have us buy
rather than give us 10% of what we buy in amongst rubbish...

consumer advertising fatigue is a thing.. you turn off time wasting on a cellular level..

Note it doesn't take that much blocked games to start having a critical mass of clashing tags and genres. After a certain point you're bound to find that any game you look at the store has tags or is categorized into a genre you have a lot of blocked games with.

From experience of seeing other users with the same issue, having a large amount of ignored games always makes the recommendations throw low-tier games at the user, in a 'throwing things at the wall to see what sticks' kind of way.

The average Steam user never gets to see any of it anyway.

Curation systems sound good until they get on a game you want because potato.

I just ran a discovery queue and got:

-The Oulast Trials.
-FarCry 6
-Rule the Waves 3
-Firmament
-Demonologist
-Omega Strikers
-Dredge
-Car for sale Simulator
-Shadows of doubt.
-F1 23
-Ghostlore
-W2K23

I've never gotten the 'full of trash' experience other people have on the discovery queue and we all use the same queue. I do focus on giving the system positive feedback (wishlist, followed games) and have around only 0.01% of all the games seen in the queue ignored.
