Why people love gaben?
Here's why

Gabe Newell is the co-founder of Valve. An independent games developer who also owns the pioneering digital distribution platform...Steam.

Once upon a time there was a great game called Doom. While a fantastic game, Doom had very little in the way of story line or immersion. Doom was succeeded by other games like Duke Nukem and Quake. But Half Life was the game that made the player a part of a story. As Freeman...the player tried to survive a crazy science experiment gone wrong when Aliens overtake the facility. At the time the attention to detail and the way the story flowed without a single cutscene was a remarkable acheivement for video games and Half Life is still regarded as one of the greatest FPS titles ever created.

I am gonna shorten this up.

Then there was Half Life 2 which was also a great game. Along with Half Life 2 Valve gave us Steam. Steam is a digital platform that gives developers security for their games while giving gamers a convenient way to purchase games and keep them updated. At this particular time many devs were sticking to consoles and many people wondered if PC gaming was dying. Valve turned that around with Steam. Gabe Newell was an important part of all of this. So people feel like Gabe Newll played a big part in keeping PC gaming alive:sj_smile:

He keeps the company private which is worthy of respect. So yes he deserves some butt kissing for sticking to his principles.

he is so warm and cuddly

he has a great sense of humor, nobody can make you laugh like my gabby :ws_daman:

he always smells soooooo good

no clue what it is, but i could sniff on him all day

he lets me ride his pegasus, which while it may sound cool, is most certainly not

it hates me, and i cannot say no when gabby asks, or he gets offended

the damn thing makes sure i wind up puking every time

but he lets me ride it, and that is just too awesome:sr4sunglasses:

Gaben is the game bringer.

He took what he learned and didn't learn at Microsoft and turned it into a multi billion dollar company that has held the top PC gaming service for 20 years.

Do you think he (and his company) are immune from the "You die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain." thingy?

But yeah thank god the only thing he didn't took and learned at Microsoft is how to sliming down like Bill Gates.
because who doesn't love a figure like Santa Claus bringing discounts, right?

Yes. All of this, basically.
Steam would surely turn into a craphole if there were ever shareholders telling them how to operate.

That's what I would see as ultimately selling themselves out to someone bigger, but whether they will do that or not depends on the predecessors of Gabe more likely.

Even then I can't see why they would. With so much money they get to experiment with whatever kind of innovation they want, which is their whole schtick for bringing more ways to play on Steam. It should theoretically be any employee's dream to have their ideas come to life. It's like a free sandbox over there.
There's no way that I would sell that opportunity away.

Still, Valve's "flat hierarchy" company structure is also criticized for being strict on only pondering ideas which provide actual value for the company, while discouraging the rest, so it's not like it is all sun and rainbows over there, one should keep in mind.
There's supposedly plenty of scrapped projects to back that up.

I don't know him, never even met him. I do use the products his company makes, but I generally don't profess love for the CEOs of companies that make stuff I use. But sure, I can respect the guy for what he's done, Valve is by no means perfect but they're the best at what they do.

If Gayben has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Gayben has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Gayben has only one fan then that is me. If Gayben has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against Gayben, then I am against the world.
