Mention of a defunct ROM site will get you permabanned?!
How is discussing anything to do with a particular website that was once known for hosting illegal game roms, but was since shut down back in 2018 considered "Promoting Piracy"?

I can literally find pages of examples of this happening, yet it happens on one particular forum that I replied in & you get a permaban with no private messages, warning or even a temporary ban?

Steam Support literally pushes you back to contact them, yet the Developer/Moderator refuses to communicate back through the ban message that was given through the Steam messaging system.

How is this considered fair acceptable treatment?

EDIT: There was NO mention of getting games, HOW to get them or anything of the such, just the validity of the claim on if a website was up or down.

Steal games, or even talk about it. Get your account banned. People aren't entitled to getting something for free that others have to pay for.

It wasn't even a discussion on games and they weren't even part of the discussion, just if the website was up or down...that was all.

That is enough to get you banned from any emulator's forum.

Except as I've already pointed out, not on RetroArchs forum it isn't;

So how is it acceptable on one forum page and not the other, both on the Steam Platform and should be following the same rules & guidelines? This feels like one dev cherry-picking wording and using it against myself in a manner to punish me and going to an extreme measure at that since there were no previous infractions, IMO.

Yes, there was once a time that even a discussion of Console Emulators themselves were considered "Promoting Piracy" and never to be discussed, already pointed out here as well;

https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/6862-8119-C23E-EA7B
Content Rules
Discussion of piracy including, but not limited to:
Cracks
Key generators
Console emulators

Yet here is another thread from that very link discussing all of the released retro-console games on Steam and how they themselves use some form of Emulation. Even the RetroArch developer was commenting in there PRIOR to them even getting the greenlight on Steam to release their own emulator.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/1118310/discussions/0/1643168364654032851/

Times have recently changed with console emulation considering how many retro games on Steam actually use emulation, and how these Emulators themselves are starting to enter Steam as of past couple of years. There isn't really a clear line drawn now as its still stated that Console Emulator discussion should be classified under the piracy aspect, however we now have actual emulators themselves popping up on Steam with discussions of such being made every single day.

If Steam is making changes to allow these to exist on their platform in the first place, then there also needs to be a update to the rules & more-so...make sure they are followed across the board for all Emulator forums on Steam.
Just because one moderator missed some nuances doesn't mean Steam will reverse your ban.

Okay, so then you would agree that a permaban is warranted without any type of messaging, warning or temp ban put in place first? Steam Support refers back to contacting the developer and refers to the developers own set of rules & guidelines to follow, yet as I've pointed out before...their own rules were not in place until after it was issued.

The RetroArch dev also partook in the other discussion that I said was discussing Console Emulation when Console Emulation is supposed to be against Steam Rules & Guidelines, there's nothing missing there at all.

Acceptable to whom? Valve don't like to interfere with developers who self moderate their forums.

Besides the guidance they publish can be considered the bare minimum they expect, if a dev/publisher goes beyond that is up to them. Which means that in this case the Dolphin devs are using a stricter interpretation. They may as others have suggested, decided to be more cautious to avoid any potential issues from the likes of Nintendo etc...

The reality is all you can do is appeal the ban to the developers and if they don't overturn it accept that and move on.

Appeal the ban, I want to see if Valve makes the ban worse because , you know, they can make the ban harsher if they see fit. Proceed carefully.
