Hong Kong massive price increase in April 2024
I knew the regional pricing increase in 2022 thing. However in 2024 at about April, regional price of games in Hong Kong has ANOTHER increase of 45% in 7 out of 10 games I bought or about to buy. What's the reasoning for that?

Ask the game devs/pubs of said games. They set the prices.

Neither did HK.

They told you they didn't change the prices at all and Valve didn't change them.

Which games?

so youre saying a $50 game is now a $72.50 game

i can say that i feel new game pricing has gone up everywhere... aus here...

old games are sort of stagnant which as a customer we are losing now
because in store these games would be in the bargain bin or not
even sold.. i.e. no sale.. no profit...

so game dev/pub might think they are the winners..... for now...

overall i have watched the world become more and more expensive and
we are now paying the high price.... you get less and less each year now.....

enjoy the loss...

Inflation hits every industry over time and with digital goods there is no reason to discount games anymore compared to when you need shelf space and had to sell them at a loss.

HKD suggested prices haven't increased since October 2022. If you're seeing recent changes, those are being done by the developer. While Valve may suggest a price based on the USD value, Valve itself does not set the prices for a publisher's game. The only exception to that was recently when the new LATAM-USD and MENA-USD regions were created. Valve notified all of the publishers that the prices would default to the base USD counterpart in those regions unless the publisher set them to something else.

In regards to your list of games, you can use SteamDB.info to see when the prices increased. There is no April 2024 increase. As a matter of fact, you'll notice that they all increase at different times suggesting that the publishers of those games are making the decision to update the price on their own terms, not Valve's.

PULSAR: Lost Colony Mar 23, 2024: Base price increased from HK$109 to HK$156 Evochron Legacy SE Jan 18, 2023: from HK$109 to HK$156 Earth Analog Feb 24, 2024: from HK$109 to HK$156 SpaceEngine Aug 4, 2023: from HK$109 to HK$187 (higher than Valve suggested price) Geometry Dash May 6, 2024: HK$23 to HK$33 Wreckfest Jun 14, 2018: raised from HK$219 to HK$349 Aug 6, 2019: reduced to HK$299 Sep 21, 2020: reduced to HK$234. Valve suggested price is HK$187. No change since Sep 21, 2020. Pacific Drive Since release, base price is HK$187. Currently on discount for HK$152.60. No changes to base price at all. BeamNG.drive May 17, 2024: HK$109 to HK$156 art of rally April 19, 2023: HK$109 to HK$156

There is no correlation between the raised prices and any specific date. Some have been set to their current price for a while now. Unless you're mistaking a discounted sale price for it's base price, that is.

I attempted to read the price graph on SteamDB and all I got was ServerError. I should've read all of them to clarify what has changed but the site won't let me, I remember I could at least read the price graph up to 1 year

The publisher of Art of Rally denies the price change, as shown:

IIRC, we haven't changed the base game price since release.

Steam increased regional prices at the end of 2022, though.

Pacific drive is currently -30% and 187*(1-30%)=130.9, not 152.6

Inflation is a scam, all previous hardwork of improving quality of life is gone due to inflation, the top 1% steals without working

Correct. There has been no price increase since April last year. And there was no price increase to that game at all in 2022.

You claim there was one in April 2024. So they are correct to deny your claim.

My prices are based on what I pulled from SteamDB. And it appears I did read the graph wrong. It states a discounted price of HK$152.60. Fact still remains there have been no price adjustments to the base price since release.

And that relates to your April 2024 price increase claim how?

I did what I did as a service to you to see that this claim of a price increase to Hong Kong happening in April 2024 is a figment of your imagination. I checked a few other popular games and did not see any price hikes as you describe.

Do your own research if you like. I have nothing more to provide. You claim is debunked.

Truth. It's in short supply these days.

And I'm not wanting to "win". I simply wanted to validate what you saw. If you were correct, I would have said so, or simply not provided the proof I did.

If you're going to make a claim on a discussion forum, make sure you have the facts to defend it.
