Nobody is taken advantage of.
Steam doesn't make the prices.
Their commission is higher than others, but that's not the reason game prices increased.
Not to mention Steam offers more than the competition so the higher commission is justified.
Steam is also not a monopoly in any sense of the word. It's a marketplace you can offer your games on. Nobody is forcing you to sell on Steam. You can use Epic or GoG for example. Some companies made their own launcher, which is also an option. Steam literally does nothing but exist. Literally nothing is stopping companies from selling and distributing games via other means.
the higher commission is not really justified now.... the more... you speak of...
all the infrastructure was made years ago and we should
of had a new super duper steam client platform... but all we got is this....
valve is getting easy boring money these days... 30%...
i am sure we would experience the same same for 3%
They did. They were very permissive for it. But I know for MK11 some people had trouble getting refunds after the first major patch that made the game run worse.
i was thinking about the real price it costs to make a bottle of cola...
and how we get suggested pricing as in whats the customer willing to pay...
its like milk and yogurt...
if a carton of milk is $1.... people justify yogurt being 7 times as much
because it takes longer to make... but in reality the first cycle might
have cost a bit more but after that its old milk costing 7 times as much
that last 7 times longer...
steam is automated for most of us... it cost steam a label on game
for me to be on here... no tv or marketing....
plus...
valve accountants would investing steam profits making more profits on more
profits on more profits....
what do you think that 30% is actually doing.....
That doesn't really matter though for the topic of this thread. They are not being sued because they are making a profit.
The company suing is the equivalent of an ambulance chaser. They have filed numerous claims to many companies along similar lines and haven't won a single one of them.
They rely on companies who will offer to settle rather then litigate to generate money.
true....
but people make up funny reasons as to why steam get that 30%
and as i have said on another post.... that steam 30% is tax deductible
by any game maker / publisher as a running cost...
so saying that 30% should be past on to the steam customer is a con as well....
customers are not getting the tax refund.... doh!!!
EGS takes what 12%, has no community features and has not made a profit since launch. It is sustained (barely) by Fortnight micro transactions.
And to all of you who do nothing but complain about Steam? Why are you using Steam if you hate it so much?
Probably a good thing, or EGS would have un moderated genital pics in its community chat hubs for Fortnight, like Valve does for Counter Strike Global Offensive chat room.
Hey it's not like EPIC would do anything spectacular with its profits, Valve has profits and can't even afford to chase after daily chat scammers and genital pic posters.
*PANG*
Totally misleading.
"For over 50 years, Milberg Coleman Bryson Phillips Grossman (“Milberg”) and its affiliates have been protecting victims’ rights and have recovered over $50 billion for our clients. Milberg is a pioneer in federal class action litigation and is widely recognized as a leader in defending the rights of victims of corporate wrongdoing." Source: https://milberg.com/
They have a similar case against Sony. That has been approved to go to trial (Sony's attempts to get it dismissed failed) - and has not been resolved.
This is a law firm that excels in class actions and has a track record of winning them.
If I were Steam, I'd be treating this very seriously.
Just because it hasn't been dismissed doesn't mean it's not a shot in the dark. Likely took a shotgun approach and managed to get something to stick, much like the example with the Steam case with Australia where they just needed to update their verbage on the refund policy but the refunds denial was still upheld by the judge.
Also of course the information from the firm's OWN WEBSITE is going to spin things in a positive light. Come back with some actual objective information, actual case outcomes, etc not just the firm's vague tooting of their own horn so to speak.
