Why is Steam having so many issues lately?
This is especially the case with the Steam community market. At first, I would just have to refresh the page whenever an error message would pop up. Now I can't even browse the Market menu properly without it freezing every other time I turn an item listing page, using the search bar, or even just clicking on a listed item.

Not to mention that trading in Valve own games is having even more problems lately, especially in TF2. What is going on? What's the matter with Steam lately?

The market has been issues for a tad longer now. But if I'm not mistaken, they've been altering things, like a new look for the inventory and such. It all is related, of course, so probably will have to stabilise still. And Valve being Valve, that will take time and certainly not happen in the weekends. ;)

i predicted this. They use a different framework now, which is incompatible with older Windows-versions (Win 7 still works, but it will soon break and then from there on Win 7 can no longer use it). All these issues are he beginning of the "Year 2025 IT-Crash". I call these current issues "Phase 4" (which has just begun).

Phase 5 is expect to happen earliest in spring 2025.

Steam doesn't have any competent software engineers to fix it. They are using a Google Chrome back end, which is why they cut off Win 7 users, and they don't know how to fix it. All they can do is sort of cobble things together and hope for the best. If they had competent engineers in the first place, they would not have had to cut off Win 7 users, and could have made a lite-client for older OSes. Just expect things to get worse as time goes forward and Chrome makes more changes.

While I don't own a windows 7, this sounds like it will honestly just get worse until Valve gets their act together. What on Earth are they doing at that company?

With regards to dropping support for older Windows versions? Nothing they haven't been doing since the first time they dropped support for older Windows versions in 2007. Dropping 7 and 8 is now the 4th time Valve drops older Windows versions.

They have allways cut off older Windows though. Windows 7 isn´t the irst cut, remember? They cut off Windows XP, Windows ME/2000 and Vista before. So it shouldn´t come as a surprise.

Everybody does cut off older softwarwe. You also cannot expect to run Pokemon Go on an outdated stone-old Android 8.0.

If someone robbed a bank before, it doesn't suddenly make it okay to do it again.

There are a multitude of ways they could have continued to support older systems if they wanted to and had minimal know how.

Like the obvious one, they could have disabled purchasing from those old machines, while offering a lite client for downloads and DRM servicing. Then they could have tied that into the phone app. That way, you could be forced to make purchases through your phone, but then you could push that to your PC through the lite client download service.

If I pull out my PS3, I can still play my PS1 games on it. I could go buy an Atari 2600, and some games, and be playing them again within an hour.

Ending support is comparable to a crime is it? And if it's not, then robbing banks can be wrong, and ending support is a pretty normal occurrence that has happened for decades industry-wide, it's not something Valve invented...

If they wanted to maintain legacy clients and engage in other antics for another decade they would. Once of the options, a reasonable one, is to end support. A minority of holdouts and cheapskates unwilling to upgrade their systems on an ever evolving platform doesn't make them some kind of priority, just saying.

Or they could just not waste money supporting a minority of low value customers.

Well PC's and Steam aren't consoles. But since you want to play, how's all that PS3 support on PSO? How's that access to digital content you purchases on your PS3? Let's not pretend it's all rose tinted shall we, there's different issues on old consoles that had a lot of Internet integration. There's lots of ancient PC games I can play online now, maybe not so true or equally as old consoles.

And if we're going back to PS1 games, well, no one is stopping you from pulling out the discs for your 1995-2001 PC games and running them on whatever system you want.

They can't even make the phone app stop from crashing if you scroll down on the news tab. They can't do crap other than slap premade code together and hope it works, then ignore it when it doesn't.

Or they could just not waste money supporting a minority of low value customers.
It would be an ever expanding pool of customers, especially after Win10 looses support and many people are using Hardware that is not compatible with Win11.

How's that (...)
Not one expects continued updates for their older stuff. They just want what they already have to continue working. Every digital game on my Vita, for example, still works perfectly.

yes. But this hardware didn´t rely on Shaders...See? PS3 didn´t even haev a strong Graphics processor to begin with. It had a strong processor, not a strong GPU!

Modern hardware all relies on shaders and nearly everything runs on the GPU today even AI. Even just putting out a simple text requires shaders now!

The WiiU is the real successor to the PS3, because it does a lot similar like PS3 did it.

Today you constantly have to cut off older OSes. Because shaders don´t allow you to run something forever.

Not without an emulator. Apparently more so with 11 than 10.

Ah ... still looking for excuses to run older OSes, huh?

Older OSes are the epitomy of leaving the front door of your home wide open and having no security at it. Yeah, I get it ... newer OSes don't have great security either, BUT at least they have some sort of security.

I suspect that you either are or know some very good hackers to speak like this. Minimal know how my ass. This post I quoted is the poster boy for getting rid of old OSes.

That isn't a concern when the unit has been permanently severed from the net, which works with almost all of my old PC disks. But a few things happened that "artificially" generated dependency on internet connection. Like advances in DRM, the rise of launchers such as Steam and the likes, and the move for hard copies at stores to rely on said launchers for the installation of the actual game.
