what if valve did something similar to xbox game pass?
Just think if valve and steam dipped their feet into live gaming service, and made an xbox game pass type of service for steam?

would you be into it?

Valve wouldn't be into it. ANd neither would you I suspect. it'd cost waaaay more than you're likely willing to pay.

What if you did something similar to using the forum search or asking the google?

Gabe Newell in an interview with PC Gamer indicated that Valve isn't interested in doing that. They will work with anybody who wants to set one up for themselves, like they did with EA for EA Play. He also indicated they happily work with Microsoft to bring GamePass to Steam.

Games as a service is one of the more insidious corporate-centric business models that this industry has tried to adopt. It needs to burn a quick and painful death along with NFTs and Crypto.

What's the point? If someone wants something like GamePass, they can subscribe to GamePass.

why would valve waste money on doing something like this when they have practically a monopoly on pc market?

GabeN isn't interested...

Valve president Gabe Newell has said that he's open to working with Microsoft to get Game Pass onto Steam, while also confirming that the company isn’t currently interested in a competing service.

I use games pass, EA and some others on and off all the time for myself and kids. I for one believe it's one of the best idea's ever to hit gaming. No longer do I need too folk out full price to buy and play one game, now I pay a set fee per month and have access to hundreds of games.

e.g why pay £50 for a new AAA+ title when I can pay £10 once and complete the said game in under 20 hours.

Anyway, it's not for everyone but the option is there. Most gamer's will play a game once, complete it and never return and move onto the next game.

For me personally, I have saved a fortune over the years since using these services. I been trying to work it out on how much I have saved over the years and on top of my head, I would say thousands of pounds.

Steam is just a digital distribution, so they can't do that unless the developer or publisher accept it.

How does MS do it? What prevents Valve from doing the same thing? If they were interested that is?

It's an opt in program.

If valve did one, it only include valve games really, as 99% of games on Steam are not valve games, they're 3rd party so only option is cut deals with 3rd party to get them to join.

But question would be would it be supported by the consumers, or be a flop on them just like how discord try to do it. Large publishers are gonna be really hard to cut deals as they hold all the cards, so indie games be likely more ideal. Just know Steam isn't like Microsoft, or Sony, they're primary a store front that allow services done via their store, example EA play which you notice EA play via Steam only include EA games.

Now price is most important factor, and deal cost to maintain games to be included that is not theirs, so people keep their sub to it. Remember discord flop thinking people will sub to them for gamepass and that didn't work due to games they could only afford to make deal with, and most games were not that amazing to keep people interested to keeping their sub.

So end, if, and I mean if Steam does it, the question what would it include to convince people to sub to it, compare to buying it, and having unlimited time, and only had to pay once. There people whom waits for deals, or bundle sites keys to include said games getting dirt cheap, and no it not just indie games it includes AAA publishers games as well, that kind of the point, and problem why sub might not work out.

"I'm locking this thread since Necroing threads is a big issue" :d2rubick:?

Don't want to derail, but I've tried this and usually the thread gets locked.
