Local Network Transfer question.
Hi, I have a Steam Deck and I use the local network transfer to keep it updated which works perfectly.

Today, I wanted to play a game I have on my steam deck but not on my computer. So I tried installing it hoping it would do a local transfer like it does for the steam deck but it didn't, it started downloading a full 13 GB from Steam's servers (It's still downloading). I had it installed yesterday on my steam deck so it's downloading twice the same thing which is bugging me since I have a cap on my internet connection.

Is it normal that it works one way but not the other?

Local Transfers weren't set up to go from Deck to PC.

Requirements

Any Steam client or Steam Deck can receive game content from another client on their LAN, but there are a few conditions that have to be met before the local transfer can take place.
  • Only a PC running in Steam desktop mode can host a network transfer. Steam Decks, PCs in Big Picture mode, and custom launchers can't transfer their files out over the local network.

That merits a Picard face palm meme pic if anything does. The Deck is certainly a small PC, especially if docked -- anything on the LAN (if configured to do so in options or whatnot) ought to be able to host files. Some of us still technically have download quotas (thanks, Comcast you cheap weasels....), setting aside the time spent at Internet instead of LAN speeds.

Just tested today on a Steam Deck Oled. The local network game transfer is working.
Transferring a game from Steam Deck to PC via SteamOS game mode.

The feature was added after this thread was last replied to.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
