Correct. It is called the Soundtrack Player now.

It's gone, blame the incredibly thoughtful UI designers at Valve. You can only use it for soundtracks you bought on this glorified DRM store.

You can press Alt+Tab and use another music player maybe?

IT seems that the kind of people complaining about it are not even aware they can use a third party music player (who will be better in every way...)

Just use a external player like MusicBee or similar. Many more options and can be easily controlled even if you are ingame with keyboard shortcuts.

If you want it back, you have to go to:

Steam: Settings: In Game: ToolBar Preferences:
and enable the Soundtrack Player from there, with one of the small sliders.

They have hidden the Soundtrack Player. I think because if you enable it, and play music with it, it may use some of your CPU power, up until you restart the Steam client. I think the Soundtrack Player still needs a little bit more work, and that's why it's hidden.

actually steams music player was amazing and near objectively better than any other media player out. the fact that it was so old meant it was made in the era of minimalist software. so it took next to no resources to run. and you didnt have to tab out to putz with it which ALOT of older games do not like.

so let me get this straight, people were not only defending the act of purchasing music from a game u already bought as a way to show "support" to musicians but now we are forced to only use "support" sound tracks on the steam launcher. you guys have way too much money to spend and keeping giving companies more and more ways to get "supported"

is there an option to get custom music back?

So many dismissive non-SteamDeck users in this thread telling people to use an External music player, not understanding just how much that sucks on the Deck.
The music player in Steam was so much simpler and so much easier, and while your dismissiveness might be seen as valid for PC users, it isn't for SteamDeck and SteamOS users considering that with gamescope music control or using an alternate music player is actually a big pain. It's less elegant than having one built-in to steam's UI.

Maybe possibly via a plugin with Deckyloader but I haven't seen one that does it, so it probably doesn't yet exist. Would be nice if we did have a mod to add the functionality back though.
