Where is "new message" notification in new UI?

In the old steam UI it used to be a nice green envelope visible when I had a new message from friends in steam chat. Like that:

Where is it in new UI? Now I have to manually check my friends' list to see if there's any new message. I have all notifications enabled in the settings.
It still works in internet browser the old way....

Chat notifications aren't visible in the new notifications centre, no. Not sure if it's intended or bugged. I hope the latter.

I believe this is intended as chat would saturate the new notification history.
I think it has moved Unread Messages to the Friends list.

For now you are not notified when someone is DMing you. One of my friends waited 3 hours for me to notice.
Unless they fixed it overnight.

It took me nearly 2 weeks to go into the friends list to find chats. I had no clue. And I mentioned it in the feedback for the beta.

It should at least notify you somehow at the bottom where it says "Friends & Chat". Like light it up there or something. I also missed a message from a Friend. It's annoying it doesn't show it anywhere in the new UI.
