Memory Leak? - Steam Web Helper using 6GB of RAM
I left my PC on over night, went out for the day, and came back to my PC to find my RAM sitting at 75% usage while idle. A single steam web helper process had 6GB reserved.

This new UI isn't just a memory hog - it actively has a memory leak. I can deal with new visuals. I can put aside my disgust at web-based design infecting the rest of the steam UI. But this is an actual issue, and should have been caught in testing.

We would probably be seeing abnormal GPU usage with steam if that were the case Lol.
exactly steam is fine the way it is

no steam isnt fine the way it is.

Well what OS are you using? Because it looks like Windows 7. Might be the problem.

false, the steam issues are wide spread among all OS's being used on the platform.

If it's an actual issue, then what is the problem?

Does it cause a problem when your memory is used? Is there a reason why your memory should not be used?

If there are no problems, then why are you trying to fix something?
Dumbest thing I ever read. Yeah I got 64 gig ram, which I didnt get to waste on a useless 'steam webhelper' bloat.. smfh

yup, there's a memory leak in steam... reported it to them months ago and they said they'd pass it on...

seems like it... even after this awful overhaul it's still a problem. also everything is slow and bad.

also now you can't just end the proccess, it bugs out steam...

let me guess it takes like 7 times to start it up like an old petro engine?

more like a 90s petrol engine that only works how it wants to which generally isn't actually considered "functional" and if you try to make it work properly it throws up errors and wants you to bring it back to big brother... cuz "oh no, you might be emitting too much misinformation!"

Mine went up to 10gb ( I have 32gb ). Solution was to download all pending games updates, now it's back to normal.
My ram sits at 2.2 used. My system at idle takes around 700mb. Give or take Steam is using 1.5gb at the moment. But im on linux. Perhaps thats a problem for the windows client in particular.
I gave up on nuSteam. Right now, on old steam, it's consuming 612 megabytes.

Unused ram is wasted ram thought.

The amount of ram it uses aint a problem depending on how it is managed and why it is required.

Think windows for example. Compared to Linux, it uses at least 3 times the memory. Yet they perform identical.

you missed the whole point, steam has a memory leak and it needs to be fixed.

the amount of ram steam uses is a problem.

I got the part about the leak. I was just addressing the part about the amount of memory meaning so much when really it dosent.

yet it does, steam doesnt need to be using tons of ram, that needs to be used on games and the memory leak needs fixing.

and i have seen people posting and showing high singles to double digit ram usage from steam.

so tell us again how "the amount it uses doent matter"?

Did you even read the example?

Windows uses 3X the memory and performs the same as Linux. It literally don't matter as long as its programmed to free up as much memory as possible when launching game.

Steam using memory by itself is not an issue. If its mishandling ressource NOW thats an issue.

Did you get the nuance now?

yet the amount does matter, it should be for our games and they need to fix the memory leak.

we dont need any examples, the answers are clear cut.
