is 'borrow game' broken?

I've been playing games on my second account using the borrow feature just fine for weeks. Then steam client updated, and it now says I need to request access.

I signed in as my game owner account and set up family sharing AGAIN (because it seems to have reset AGAIN).

I then signed out and signed back in as my other user.

I request the game and it says "request failed - in order to allow game sharing (x) must login to thi machine and enabled family library sharing here'.

So I did that. I signed into the machine. And enabled family sharing. And signed out. And signed in as my borrowing user. And requested the game. And it says


"request failed - in order to allow game sharing (x) must login to thi machine and enabled family library sharing here'.

Kinda, yeah. Others had issues with Family View preventing them from also Sharing after the update.

I'm also having this problem, glad to find I'm not the only one. Tried to play games with my partner on my steam deck and it just says I have to log in with the other account- Extremely frustrating (especially since switching accounts on the steam deck is just such a slow process).

Single clicking the little plus buttons next to category names in small mode still works to expand the category. But Valve broke single clicking on the actual category names to do the same, so...

I fixed my situation (on the steam deck) by going into desktop mode (while logged in as the user who wants to share the games) and then in steam settings in desktop mode, there is a toggle to enable family sharing on this device. I enabled that and went back into gaming mode, everything worked correctly after that.
