Bring back the option to have the friends list as the default window please!
I've always had my friends list as the default Steam window (on launch/when you double-click the try icon), because I access it much more often than the library or any other Steam window. Now that option is gone... please add it back to the list of options!

Nice to see I'm not alone here. I've used Friends List as not only my "Start Up Location", but the double click as well. I can't stand the new UI, but they really need to add this option back. A lot more clicking involved just to get Friends List visible. Not to mention you have close a full screen window of any of the current available startup options.
Mine never worked, I was hoping for a fix... this is the opposite?

Right click (assuming you're right handed) on the Steam icon either on your desktop or taskbar (if you use taskbar make sure Steam isn't running). Select properties. In the target window you'll see "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe". (assuming that's your default location). Add -vgui to the end of it and click Apply. Open Steam. Go to Settings then Interface. Second option down, change it back to Friends. Click Ok. Done.

Target window should look like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -vgui

Old UI back with Friends List now the default as it was before.

If you simply want the old UI back, then just add -vgui and change whatever you like.

Thanks man. Works like a charm. I wonder how long that's gonna work tho...

Steam, please add the missing options to the new UI!

Why was this removed back in June with the new Steam UI? I've been using -vgui until today which no longer works. As a Steam user for 18+ years, very unhappy about this change.

Same! Thanks to your advice I've been using -vgui for over a month now (with a shortcut placed in the Windows startup folder) and been happy to have the Steam functionality I've had for all those years.

Now suddenly double-clicking on the tray icon opens the main Steam window (which I don't need) instead of the friends list which is very irritating.

STEAM WHERE THE HELL IS THE OPTION TO HAVE THE FRIENDS LIST AS DEFAULT WINDOW IN THE NEW UI???

Very disappointing & annoying change.

Give us -vgui back or simply, you know, add "Friends" back as a startup / default Steam window option in the new UI like it has been available in the old UI for like 20 years.

Seriously Steam, wtf. Get a move on.

Give double-click tray icon > friends list back

Double-clicking the try icon is a much faster way than right-clicking it and looking for the correct option in the menu.

Problem is they have removed the option to open the friends list with a double-click on the tray icon, an option that a lot of people used.

A UI update should not take functionality away that is changing a core way of how people use the application.

pls fix it and bring back friends list as default window
They're not bringing this back. They removed it on purpose. This is part of the new steam client now. Also: The -vgui option is NOT returning. It's gone forever. You have to use the new steam client and deal with the changes if you want to keep playing games on steam. You have no choice in the matter.

Doubt it. The options that disappeared are the ones that run in windows separate from the main Steam window. Both the "Friends" and the "Servers" options disappeared from the default options. Seems like an oversight to me.
Valve gains nothing if people set their default window to Library now. But they're pissing off everyone who has used Friends as their default window for years. Valve would have to be really stupid to do such a change on purpose.

You see it as an oversight. Valve sees it as progress.

Explain to us what progress that would be.
