Not using steam anymore. A HOW TO

Let's face it, valve won't change a thing. No matter how much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anyone does, they don't care. Valve has all the money. They aren't a PC gaming oriented company now. They do tech demos, and make the steam deck. They actually are doing all of us who care about Linux a big favor, and I support them there. However make no mistake they aren't looking after your needs and haven't been for awhile. The will of their customers is nothing, and they won't act on it. Let them have the steam deck, and that whole market. We can go elsewhere for our needs and wants because at this point we're simply enabling them to do other things, and exploit us, annoy us, just generally waste our time and hurt our eyes. It really isn't so much to ask to customize our client to our liking is it?

I'm going to go over ways to disconnect from steam, as that would clearly be the only thing to give them pause on ♥♥♥♥♥♥ design, and flagrant neglect of the userbase they have roped in through un-consumer minded policies. i.e. we own nothing and are tethered to steam by ubiquity. If you think it's too much of a hassle to do this that's exactly what I'm talking about.

SINGLE PLAYER GAMES:
All of them are free, I'm not advocating for torrenting, but if I were, I would lie and say I have been doing it for years and have never one gotten a virus. DO NOT look that up on your own

MULTI PLAYER GAMES:
https://www.gog.com/ has a compendium of online games with networking support that rivals steam. Most are cross-catalogued. In the future, buy from them. This leads me to the next concern

FRIENDS
Steam friends has been outmoded for a long time by 3rd parties. Almost everyone reading this will have Discord or a Matrix client such as element. If you have people you wanna talk to then I don't need to tell you what to do. Most people, let's be honest, you don't talk to.

FORUMS/COMMUNITY HUBS: The same as the last. It doesn't help that Steam forums are largely unhelpful. I have never had a problem i needed to create a topic for. The only genuine loss here is the steam exclusive community hub that you can view anyway on your web browser.

Steam does of course offer a few other services like the cloud and such. Most of them are just convenience. You can download things from the steam workshop through 3rd party action, but its a lot simpler (if you happen to own the game) to download it off here. The biggest thing is just to stop giving them money (and data) I have no delusion that even someone who has read this far will likely at least still have the client installed But even for you who cares so much, there's still steamless clients and emulators, goldberg emulator, and greenluma.

So spread the word around, tell your friends. Don't get used to looking at ugly things you don't like. You'll feel better, like a spring cleaning.

Remember, https://www.gog.com/ , https://store.epicgames.com , and a russian forum I won't mention here. You can find all you need without paying tithe to people who don't care.

See you are wrong again. It is absolutely possible to keep Steam in offline mode. It is even recommended by some to users who won't upgrade their OS before support ends.
The thing you experienced in the past, whenever that was, was most likey due to a known bug that has since been fixed.

I can still easily find whatever I am looking for, and it doesn't seem slower in any way, so ... you know...

I dunno, there's nothing I would prefer to use over Steam anyway, considering the um... "options" we've got in the first place... literally every other program like this, or launcher I've ever used for any game has been trash - except Steam, which has been relatively competent in comparison, pretty much the whole time. Not to say I don't have complaints... but disliking some UI changes is pretty close to the bottom of my list personally...
