How do I revert the UI update?
The UI just changed for steam. And I hate it.

just want the old simple mail icon for notifications this new weird. you see a mail icon click on read the discussions your want without the extra icons and your done.
Yeah, I agree
Cant revert it, the old data no longer exist in the client files.
And any older version of Steam will just auto update at first internet connection.
I am sure someone will cobble together some crazy half offline version with no functions but the old UI and call it a "victory", its always that way.
Large majority will just get used to the new UI and no longer care in another week or two.
I have been in the BETA branch of the UI since February so for me this is now the "normal" UI and most people will think the same in a few weeks.
Its always how these things go.

I remember when Big Picture rolled out a couple years back, people didn't like it - especially when it was forced on them completely out of the blue.

But Valve eventually put in a settings option to turn Big Picture off and gave users the choice of how they want their UI to look.

I'm hoping that the case will be the same here, too, maybe in a week or so! :steamsad:

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the new UI either. It just feels like how other companies changed the look of their logo, some look better, others...not so much.

I also hope they give an option for users to choose which UI they prefer rather than force it upon people who don't read the patch notes or see the beta stuff.

yeah but big picture or the library ui wasn't incredibly buggy and memory hogging on release.
i want to revert to the old one cause now any online game i play i can only play 60-90 minutes and then i get a pop up saying lag detected and game disconnects never had this problem before this steam update. If it is not broken don't fix it all you did was change some colors and icons

I haven't tested any of my online games yet, but if what you're experiencing is an ongoing issue, I hope the devs will at least continue to polish the UI so that people can keep playing.

I didn't notice the memory hogging until you mentioned it. Me it's unintuitive and even less user friendly then what it replaced. I ended up spam inviting my friend to a co-op game completely by accident to the point it crashed his comp. Because instead of getting feedback that I sent an invite already. Or even a hunt I did such an action clicking the square a friend's username is located in. Mind you no sounds, flashing animation no feedback at all. It's going through.

And while a nitpick. It is absolutely ugly looking.

I will be honest: the interface is somewhat slow and laggy for me, but forums and store are MUCH faster to browse. To the point that I will close my eyes on other problems and will just use it with joy.

EDIT: actually, a lot of perfomance problems that were present before are totally gone. New UI is totally faster for me. Not perfect, but great.

back when the new library ui got dropped i didn't like it that much, but i got used to it

this, this "thing" is freaking hideous. it's like everything has become bold
it's just as bad as the terrible discord re-design when they decided to ♥♥♥♥ up their look

Being able to shop faster is a moot point. If what I buy or have bought is hindered by the memory hogging of the steam UI. That is a problem. There are games I am not even sure I should attempt to play now because of this.

Ah yes nothing like requiring a memory upgrade all of a sudden due to a UI update that gave zero no functions and wasn't even asked for.

This isn't comparable to that. It was just an bad ascetic then. I never got used to it. This it's buggy, plus it eats up 2/3 of my memory alone now. WTF? I'd actually have to manually boot the games outside of steam to even play a significant chunk of my library now. Not even playing multiple MMO's at the same time eats up this much memory.
I... I don't get it. I launched SEVERAL games at once, but the total amount of memory steam processes use right now are less than 800 MB. Before the update, steam was eating 800 MB at least without any games running. There was a memory leak, and it crashed often when reaching 1.5 Gigs. Can't yet say about the leak, but the memory usage is better for me, that's for sure.

it probably was asked for by a group of executives who decided to "modernize" something that didn't need to
I don't have an issue with memory however I do have to say that this new UI is uglier than the previous UI and it's also a bit slower which is annoying and was also the first major flaw I noticed.

Not this time since the Music Player feature was removed, I cannot even access my music library to remove around 1TeraByte of music I got on here.
