New Steam Client Using 490 MB's of Memory???
It's bad enough this thing has to always be running in the background even when I'm not downloading updates or purchasing games, but this release after all the Steam services are added up is now using 522 MB's of system memory in Windows 10.

ahh got it, you just made that nonsense up, cause you dont like that there are people still using win 7/8/8.1.
They can use whatever operating system they want. Doesn't affect me any and never will. Most of their posts are humorous though, and many are spreading misinformation due to them listening to conspiracy theories etc. But that's not really this topic.

I know there's some bugs with new steam client, but thankfully I've not been affected by any of them. I know some are having memory issues, I know many linux users are having issues, even tested myself since my system is setup to dual boot Linux and Windows so encountered the weird Linux issues on Arch Linux latest kernel.

Bugs will get ironed out over time, per normal. As long as the clients not broken and I can do everything I did before, I'm perfectly fine. If I do encounter any bugs, I'll happily confirm them in a thread related to them.

Per normal though, most of the complaints are due to change. As with everything in life, most are scared and hate change for some reason, since things shift and move around and your comfort etc gets affected.
I disagree... Most of the threads rn are due to bugs.

Ui being worse might be a bit personal taste to an extent, but App using way more mem than it should (and more than the competition while doing the same with diff apps), steam closing processes roughtly and messing up itself opening them again, huge number of processes being created for no reason and not being "killed" eating mem, Steam not closing itself as quick as before (its actually slow as hell), back button bug, steam going back to library alone while browsing (because bugged and kill restart webhelper process roughly), among other thing, is something that cannot be given an opinion to, its simply bad programming that needs to be fixed.

Add this with things that we had in the past that doesnt work now.

Using more ram is not really my issue I have plenty its the fact it is sluggish and buggy.....
Volfogg 2023 年 6 月 16 日 下午 1:19
I did not notice any new sluggishness with the update, but that might be because my internet speed is pitiful to begin with. Can't really tell how would that difference look like for 3-digit Mb/s speed users.

A few hours of idling, and now mine is at over 750 megs. I think there is a leak.

Firefox doesn't use anything when I close it to free up space for a game. Steam, on the other hand must be active in the background to run its games.
On my two portable systems, this is a real issue as it hogs up to all my ram. Also, you missed the part where it goes up, even in idle. I got little idea as to what end it'll go before stopping. Luckily there is still restarting steam. But this is obviously an issue with the launcher that should get fixed.
I built my computer to run games, not the steam launcher alone.

not everybody has 128 gb of ram, it does not justify steam using such amount of memory *at startup*

there is a simple rule: use as much ram as you like (because is way faster then loading from disk) but release it when you something else (i.e. a game) needs it..

i want my ram to be utilized for >50%
everything just works smoother

Problems arise when you use all your ram*. And steam is offering no fine control of its usage. While this may not be as much of an issue on my tower, things are different on my two more portable devices.

*Problems like system sluggishness to software crashes.

So this is why my PC has suddenly been rebooting while playing Mordhau...

What the hell? This shouldn't be happening with 16GB of memory.

i went from 800mb while idle to 430mb
