Did they remove the Music Player?
Because that's one of the few reasons I used the overlay for as some games throw a fit if one ALT-TABs out to change music tracks.

Better yet make a Steam specific soundtrack player with superior features to something like Winamp, too much to ask? I think not

Maybe if the player was actually good people would use it, or even knew where to find it

i think to be honest steam is a gaming platform, and a lot of stuff detracts from it being worked on and functioning prorerly, like for example big picture mode is probably used by 1 percent of steam users, same for steam deck, i mean its a nice feature but it probably has significant amount of people dedicated to working on it and when we start having steam issues like the back button not working this is probably due to all these systems not working together since code is shared across all these things, i think if steam was just a list of games and a store that would probably be enough, i mean steam community itself also is a lot of stuff that is unrelated to playing, like i mean steam profile, is it a museum or art gallery or some myspace clone, everyone has a profile page but how is it enhancing peoples playing games, it just attracts a lot of social interaction that often has nothing to do with games at all, and all of that has to be maintained on the daily basis same with the actual steam app working,

i mean i also want these things but not at the cost of the core app not working normally, if they add 10 music players and it works i got no problem with that, but realistically what happens they add 1 single app to steam and it breaks entire core functionality of it working and than people forget what was causing issues since there is so much going on in steam and now users complain that that app is gone, kinda double edged sword, adding functions i mean.

What does any of it has to do with having a song list. And devs sell OST with nearly any game now as part of the package

And I seriously doubt making a decent music player is out of Valve's capability

Well users often do confuse capability with necessity or value. Valve was likely tracking music player use for a long time and if a tiny minority is using it, and it's not something they want to spend resources on modernizing for the new UI/system then on the chopping block it goes.

Valve's ability isn't the issue. And the fact they make billions and can afford to waste time and resources according to random users is a non-argument. Because beyond either of those points, Valve has a lot of experience running their platform and can make informed decisions about its direction, even if some minority is dissatisfied or doesn't understand "why".

I tried out the music player in the past and found it clumsy to use... haven't used it since and won't miss it at all...:-)

This is not an intellectual debate, we are asking for some basic features here.

Some of us have hundreds of albums that we purchased here, that is a 100 reasons to have a song list and basic playback features.

The games I buy I pretty much love the soundtracks so the music player wasn't an option or me. I'd prefer to use an outside music player anyways.

That said, it's a shame that they removed it for those who used it. My guess is it wasn't up to par for Steam standards to keep it although my understanding is that it is unclear why they did it.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was security related, though. Just another way to have to defend against attackers and never do wells.
If anyone uses Foobar2000... you can set up keyboard shortcuts to control your music. I usually never go in the actual application unless I want a specific song.
If u do steam://restartinuimode/vgui, u can get it back
would throwing in your mp3 files into a game's soundtrack folder add your own?

I'm guessing they're planning on selling music on Steam a couple of years from now, so they preemptively removed the option to play all non-Steam-bought music. ....
Now if only some of these game devs would actually release their steam game's complete OST on steam...

having problems with Armoured core 6 tbh, its a different launcher instead of DLC thingy, and then even if i can dl it seperately and try to use it with the steam player it wont work as of latest update so, yeah, back to external music player it is
hello

May be you can use another player just because if you exit steam, music will end ...

There is many nice players around, i think you have the choice : xmplayer, foobar2000,mpc-be ( yes it's a movie player but it can play most music format and shoutcast/icecast streaming as well ) and many more others.

this was steam's best feature and they removed it... unbelievable... i don't like to play games with a browser open just so i can listen to music or install and run some music player in the background ....this feature was really convenient for me and they removed it... this is beyond annoying

why would you remove a feature ? like wtf ...instead of adding fetures and improve them they just remove it... unreal .....i was already displeased with this platform for a long time with the way it is managed but now i'm actually furious..

in retaliation i will go out of my way to avoid buying games directly from steam from now on.

steam and youtube have the worst management i've ever seen , the dumb decisions they constantly make on these 2 platforms are mind boggling

they seem to have a lot of microsoft levels of incompetent programmers working on their UI, what's going on like is this sabotage. What a moronic change for something that was actually fun

Yeah, its gone.

replaced with the Soundtrack player so you can only play music you bought from steam exclusively.
but it doesn't make any sense, because i can't play the music from steam via overlay neither
