Unacceptable Download Speeds
Over a day to download and install AC Valhalla?
Peak download speeds at 8mbps?
Really?!!!
One Question: Is this the new normal? Cos if so you guys might be facing a lawsuit for the sum total of my now nigh-unplayable library of games.

This is an issue on your end somewhere.

Make sure your isp is not throttling you and you do the usual stuff to increase your speeds such as changing download region and checking any pc settings or if your connection is limited.

Steam can max out people on gigabyte speeds and it's not on their end almost always.
Can anyone explain what's going on with this? I thought this was a Ge Force Now issue, but apparently it's Steam.

What used to take me 2 minutes to download mods, now take 20 minutes. And this all seemed to happen within only the past couple months or so.

This is mine...

Ping
6
DOWNLOAD Mbps
260.90
UPLOAD Mbps
10.30

Is that acceptable? I'm not a techie.

some isp fake your actual download and upload speed with speedtest, they ensure you have a solid connection to the test server, when your net is good then sure it will match speed tests results but when its poor try any other test site and compare it to speed test.
My isp (one of the largest in the UK) was caught doing this.

download is good, upload is not so good.
to get the best out of your connection you really want 1/10 ratio or better from upload to download
so 10 up would be good for a 100 down

its not terrible, its just not optimum.

Is that upload speed the reason i'm having slow downloads of my Workshop mods? I mean i'll call them. I'm supposed to be getting great internet from those thieves.

id say probably not. like if it was 1up and 200down then even though its upload not download it can start messing with everything internet related. i only mention this because i had an issue for a few hours and speed test was reporting all fast , other speed tests were reporting issues and my own eyes i could see things were not right like voice chat cutting out etc.
Bad (slow) connection, and/or bad (cheap) WIFi router.

Both can slow you down. :)

Did a test out of curiosity.

Speedtest said 802 / 170

Downloaded Borderlands 2 (13.2GB), it peaked at 100MB/s for the first half, but spent the second half of the download bouncing around from 40-80.

(NE US, Xfinity, M2 Mac Mini on wifi. I tested on the Mac because it's got better wifi than my PC.)

I am also having a bad download speed for all steam games, tried to download several. this has never really been a steam issue before, normally it is my isp or some port settings I messed up while making a server, but right now I cannot figure out the cause. I have tried everything I can find online from setting and removing limits on downloads, clearing download cache, reinstalling client and verifying ports. I have spectrum has they are the only provider in my area and have had them for years without issue...most of the time lol. I have 1 gbps though I max at about 750 or so mbps. my steam max speed for the past week is about 4 mbps with and average of 613 KBps. This is only happing with steam no other service or downloads. Xbox average download is 42 mbps with a peak of 122 mbps and epic has gotten close to my max at 637 mbps. I am out of ideas, same equipment for the past 2 years, though I did try a router swap to see if it would help.

ISP issue very likely.

What country are you in?
Try changing Steam Download region to an adjacent country.

I.e if located in Europe, try Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania/etc.
If located in the USA try another region of USA, I think there are several to choose from.

Please tell me if that helps, or not.

yup that worked, jumped to 40 MBps once I tried changing to another country, every east to central server is slow, definitely an isp issue, Thanks for the recommendation.

Steam can saturate 1gbps connections

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3032427072

Steam can send 500mbps over trans Atlantic lines

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3150746789

Steam can globally send 150Tbps

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3015069725

Your steam downloads are limited by

1) your CPU
2) your disk IO
3) your anti-virus
4) your ISP

Pick one, Its not steam
