What kind of Moderation do you want?
Far be it for me to flog a horse that has passed on.
But

1. What kind of moderation do you want on the forums?
2. What kind of moderator would you be?
3. What would your ultimate goal as a moderator be for these forums?
4. Who would you vote for to become supreme ruler of your puny little minds a compassionate, empathetic, enforcer of the truest virtues of moderation ?

1. I would like Everybody to go total freak out on each other so i can ban them all with extreme prejudice I think a balanced approach with an emphasis on using bans only in the most extreme cases.
2. I would Be open to bribes be compassionate, fair and just. I would treat this position as King Arthur did for Camelot.
3. I would find the task of moderating these forums it's own reward and my goal would be to be rewarded a lot.
4. I would vote the person with the most bans to handle customer complaints probably vote for myself out of duty.

So theres your questions and some example answers if you have anything to say or add then please go ahead.

I don't like anarchy, but I also don't like how censored this place has become. I think the biggest mistake Valve made was letting go of the volunteer moderators and opting for hired ones instead.

Club Penguin was a police state in terms of moderation, when I say the opposite, I mean I want it to leave people be, and just intervene when things go nasty

Thank you :)

We still have time for people to put their ? there? theyre? therebethem? herebedragons? some thoughts down on moderation before I draft up the players to various positions within the proposed Hobbiton controlled Imperial Senate of The Empire 'people's democratic republic posting committee, which includes the Wednesday afternoon village baking competition judging panel ' .

its easy. Mods that actually can tell you why they banned you or removed a post without a noti.

Mods that don't make up reasons, reasons that would apply to 99,9% of the users

not breaking EU/domestic laws

being less obvious with their connection to certain users
Lambros 15. okt. 2023 kl. 9.35
I would like a moderation where I cant be banned for stating facts with sources, and making deductions from those facts.

Well its a bit rough on the edges but this is my proposal on the hiring of fellow gamers.

If you disagree with any of these appointments or wish to add some or even just to have a say on your kind of moderating style then please post.
New applicants always welcome.

Dumbledores Army :

Aachen to be part of the first responders unit.
Believed to be good at calming a disgruntled person.

Castyles
To be part of the first responders unit. To be used if anybody fails to listen to Aachen.

C2c^Guyver
If disgruntled person is not logically pacified by Castyles then fire this person out of the water cannon to be deployed at Ragefiftys discretion.

Miakisfan
to be put in charge of eliminating rival moderation companies and bribing governments to see things our way.

AmsterdamHeavy
Intercept any disgruntled persons who may be so disgruntled they speak only in incoherent ranting.
Use AmsteramHeavy only in extreme cases. The white cloud around him may disorientate other moderators.

Crazy Tiger
To be involved in the creation of the official language to be phased into the forums. He will be tasked first with creating the first Newspeak Dictionary.

Chross
Uniformed Moderator duties include smiling politely, nodding and then beating the disgruntled person with a stick randomly.

Ragefifty50
A damn fine specimen.
Authorized to use the water cannon at will.

Happy
To be deployed when we put the prices up just before a 'sale'. He will enjoy the challenge.

Brain9824
To be partnered with Happy.Best arm them with baseball bats from the 1980s.

RasaNova
Second in command of the entire operation.

Metamac
To prioritize all complaints and distribute tasks to the moderating team.

GunSmoke999
Tasked with dealing those people who make little sense. Sorry GunSmoke but I think you are the only person with the patience to handle the simpler people without having to use violence.

xAlphaStarOmegaX
Recruiting cheap / free moderators to keep the paid ones on their toes and not be asking for pay rises or complaining about working conditions.

Lo Burattino
My personal Bodyguard.

Pierce Dalton
To build the commitee of checking Moderators work.

Kitt
To explain fully why the disgruntled forum goer is in the wrong after the forum goer has been dealt with by the moderating team.

Lambros
Minister of propaganda.

Hobbit XIII
I am merely a servant to the people.

1) Like Crazy Tiger said - the moderation I want is whatever the platorm/owner of said forum space wants to have for their space. I am adult enough to make the determination of whether I want to participate in said forum because of how the moderation is.

2) Well, having been a mod in the past (mainly for game fansites, but a few others as well back in the day), as well as a forum space host, it all depends on the space where I am moderating - which relates to #1. If the forum space was strict, I was a strict mod. If it was more loose, I was more loose. For the spaces I controlled, I have no qualms with admitting I ruled with an iron fist - it was three strikes and you were out ... permanently. I don't toot my own horn about it, but the feedback I received from my forum users back then was mostly positive on how I handled the toxic and trolls that were present.

3) For the Steam forums in particular? More consistency for sure. There are positives and negatives to having only volunteer mods, and the same for only having a paid external mod team. I think the most efficient moderation comes from a combination of both. But, aside from that, I would like to see more consistency on toxic posts and users being clamped down. And we need a consistent escalating ban system. Believe you me, a lot of people on this forum have received so many chances with only 24 hour or week long bans, and maybe the occasional month long ban only to go right back to doing what they were before. These people would have been permabanned a long, long time ago on my forums.

4)Myself, of course. No one else could do a better job than I could.

None, i want a Wild Wasteland. Survival of the Fittest.
There's a funny thing about that, bud. I have noticed, in my decades on this planet, that the ones who desire a "survival of the fittest" environment are the ones least likely to survive more than a day in said environment.

Well for one. Moderators who know how to read the english language would be a charm.

A couple days ago i had to write them in regards to a Ge Force Now controller issue seemingly intermingling with Steams control settings. And what i get in turn for that question?

"We have reviewed your account, and the ban justified".

???????????

I think its time Mr Newell consider a paid service tier, to bring about more quality moderation, customer service and gameplay.

none. the only people who support the chat ban report function are the people who need to be banned by it. for every other excuse you can think of there are the cops. its censorship in its most vile form and if you think steam wont be as bad or worse then blizzard or others you are both wrong and stupid thanks to how naive you are.

the worst part is most of the insufferable people only spam things like that so you block them and they can lurk kinda like a preadtor stalking someone they intend to mug. what people dont seem to understand is without the report function they are harmless because the cops arent going to go to other countries because they cant and most cops wont even take it seriously because it literally isnt a crime or a problem.

agian because blizzard is the ultmate case and point of this and how it really works.

several streamers on twitch and youtube have confirmed for the last 5 years all of their games still use the same automated ban bot blizzard has lied about where about 100 people and boom ban. if you play 10(20-30min 3-4 hours of game play)games a day because you like the game you can easily get 20-50 people a day. if you only really talk thanks to the smart ping system when there is an issue ussaly a dispute in most cases you can easily get a ban every week until your perma banned because its a numbers game. context does not matter. the company has your money and does not care. the only recourse you have in most cases is to take the loss

but but but but i talk ♥♥♥♥ all the time and i dont get banned hurr durr. your the only clown using the report function. odds are you are literally the problem. we dont mind ♥♥♥♥ talk like you do and we dont take offense to everything like you do. the report function is fundamentally worthless to the majority of users who arent self important snowflakes.

but but but but but if you see it that much your the common demoniator so your the problem hurrr durrr. agian we are only using words because a dispute that requires them came up. we dont use the report functio nbecause to us it is functionally worthless. we dont want people banned for being retarded. there is no reason we would use it. we dont play blizzard games anymore and you still to this day. omg mm so bad omg games so toxic. you are the only ones still playing in the enivorment you made with the failed policy from a failing game company who wanted to preach about morals while molesting their coworkers. you where never good people which is the fundamental problem.

i ghost forums and remember names of people. ive watched them talk like you and slowly realize every person who said it was the problem that is as i am here was right and change their open because no one would take them seriously anymore and everyone knows its the problem. your naive and or stupid like the people before you.

hell ive blocked people manually in game and had the companies being so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ retarded as to actually unblock them when the temp ban was over and ive had to block them over and over and over agian. the report system is every bit as broken as i say it is.

pretty sure steam has had one person who is a mod that ive bocked be magically unblocked when i viewed the sub forum where he gets the mod star.

I would prefer no moderation at all and complete free speech on the forums. The only time a moderator would be allowed to step in would be when someone says or posts something that is against the law. Basically the way the old internet used to be. Unfortunately I don't see days like that ever returning.

i would agree with you but if its illegal thats literally what the cops are for. you can just skip moderation at this point because if it really is illegal the cops will throw them in a jail cell sooner not later.

the more you think about the topic the more you realize how pointless it is in the first place. you can call the employees moderation if you want but the cops ussaly like you to keep incriminating yourself so they can have an easier time locking you up to end the issue properly.
also if the cops only fine you it isnt "illegal" its "illegal" if your poor
