The mouse icon that shows that you own a game should be to removed or hidden when you set your games to private.
There is a privacy settings option to make all of your games private so that way nobody knows what games you own but even when you have that set to private there is still a mouse icon if you own the game. Obviously your games are not really private if there is still a way for people to know if you own the game or not by looking for the mouse icon.

Just NO if I want advice about a game and I can't see if that person does even own or play that game how can I determine if the advice is legit. How can I take a statement seriously about a game if I can't see if he owns the game? and yes I talk about the gameforums

Some games are sold on Epic Games and Steam both. Some people will buy the game on Epic Games but discuss the game here on the steam forums. In that situation they may legally own the game but no one will ever be able to verify it as true.

there are only a handful of people here against removing the mouse icon. the majority of players have their profiles set to private and the majority of players want the mouse icon removed. it doesn't matter if a handful of players argue against having the mouse icon removed because the people who argue against having the mouse icon removed will always be wrong and in the minority.

Then maybe, just maybe, they should complain on Epic so they finally get a forum over there? Furthermore, there is no guarantee that the version they get over there is even the same as the one in use on Steam and they might actually be talking out of their hat. Which is the whole point of this logic.

Thinking they own the game on another platform or creating otherwise completely hypothetical scenarios in your head is not going to change the way we perceive those posts.

And where is your data on this? People on this forum do not represent the majority of the users on Steam either. In fact they are but an incredibly small minority.

Kinda missing the point, the majority of players don't want it removed, they want it removed ONLY if the user has voluntarily set their game to private. They will always be right, in that if you mark a game as private their shouldn't be an icon showing you own it as that defeats the purpose of marking it as private.

Anyone who tries to claim otherwise is always wrong as they can't refute that basic logic. It's not private if there is an unremovable icon showing you own it...

It won't affect me personally because i see no need to private any of my games, but if anyone did wish to do so, then it should not show icons that show they own a game they marked as private.

Why set games to private? Just curious.

Because Milf Wars is none of our business.

Who would have thought that going on the specific game forum of an XXX game to discuss whatever they do over there could lead to others thinking that you might be interested in that content or that you are owning the game. Am I right?

It's everyone's business. If someone doesn't own the game legitimately then they shouldn't be discussing it in that game's steam forums.

A lot of steam forums are set to not even allow comments unless someone owns the game. I wish every forum in steam was set with this "Flag" enabled by default.

Yet that's not the reality of things that actually happen in real life. Plenty of people who don't own games go on game forums with the express intent to troll or mislead people. Plenty of devs don't even really police their forums and plenty of devs clearly over police it.

Again, it's not because people create problems in their heads that the rest of the player base should suffer for it. Just use common sense. And common sense, in this topic, is to realise that it is common knowledge that if you post in a given game hub that people are going to get that you either own the game or are interested in the subject material.

It is everybody's business as soon as you go in public and start talking about it.

It is when they comment in a public place like the game's steam forums. If they don't want people to know if they own the game legitimately or not then don't comment in a public place.

Oh yeah sorry. I totally forgot that it is totally normal to plug your ears when you are walking on a street, just in case someone next to you might say something in public that they consider to be private in nature.

Because that's totally how it works in real life.
