Steam Keeps trying to install Max Payne 3 even though I already own and have it installed?
Pretty much title. I had MP3 saved to my C drive but moved it to my much larger F drive to free up space. when I tried starting MP3 it tried downloading it again. I checked the "downloads" section and it has both my C and F drives and their steam folders as possible library folders. yet its still tryin gto "update" mp3 by installing the complete 30 gb again. I'm on a data cap and cant afford this.

Did you transfer the acf or appmanifest file for the game?

im sorry idk what that is. I just went to Steam- Steam Apps - Common - and moved the entire 32gb max payne 3 file over to the other drive thinking anything that needed to be in there would be contained therein. was this not correct? if not how exactly should I fix it? Thanks!

Steam uses appmanifest files to store app names, install locations, etc

Jaunitta uploaded a picture that shows where the appmanifest files are:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1931559898

Notice the numbers after "appmanifest_"

Each one is the number of a particular game on Steam. You can find that number in the URL of the store page for that game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/204100/Max_Payne_3/

Max Payne 3's number is 204100, so its appmanifest file is appmanifest_204100.acf

If your Steam client does not show the URLs at the top of the pages, you can enable that in the settings:

Click on the very small "Steam" in the top left of the client
Select "Settings" from the drop down menu
A new settings window will open
Select "Interface" from the list
Click on the box to the left of "Display web address bars when available" so there is a :correctamundo:
Click the "OK" button at the bottom right

Did you make a new Steam library folder on your F drive? Put the game folder in the Steam common folder which is inside the SteamApps folder. Put the game's appmanifest file in the SteamApps folder.

Here is some instructions on how to make a new Steam library folder, moving Steam games, and moving all of Steam:
