Is it True that when you gift something to someone you give them our email?
I get that people on steam are friends and whatever, but why would you give our accounts email with messages we send to each other in gifts? Why not just our public User name, how does that increase security? Isn't it less secure than just providing them with our user name, for instance I was informed by someone that when you gift them you basically share your accounts email address with your account?

"Dear SoandSo, Title

<message>

Best Wishes, <Name>, <STEAMACCOUNTEMAIL@EMAIL.COM>"

Maybe I am out of the loop, so to speak, when it comes to internet security among complete strangers, and that is something I am willing to accept. But in this security concious world we live in is this wise? Do you all agree with it? because if you do, could you perhaps explain to me the reason as to why you agree with this?
Maybe I am just out-of-the-loop.

That's never happened to me when I gifted someone. I don't get their email but steam forwards any message from me to their email. You sure you read it right?

Yeah which is why I stopped gifting things and started manually trading (without compensation so essentially gifting) them to my friends. Course with the whole 30 day things unless you gift it sorta jacks that over.... Thanks CC scammers >,<

I know I'm not to keen on even the few aquaintences I have on Steam knowing much more than my Steam name and that is about all I want to know about them. There are a few people who are in my steam friends who I know IRL who I dont' care if they know and generally already do know my email but the bulk of the people on my friends list might as well be people who I see at a buss stop every other couple days. No offence I just really don't know them that well, sorta like peoples "10,000 facebook friends"

Yeah they got it right at least the last time I sent a direct gift to someone they mentioned that it containted my email in the body of the letter.

huh, I never knew that. Though I only gift games to people I actually know so probably that's why.

I thought that was just an option, but maybe they changed it since my friend's birthday.

Oh sheesh I guess I'll start manually trading too now, thanks for letting me know. How does this even MAKE sense? I mean, what gives?

It is true. I saw Irritators real email (todd@adultbabycostumes.com) when he gifted me a game.

I am happy to get a gift but I don't want to know anything about their fetishes. :(

Yes it is true.

The receiver of the gift will get a message from no-reply@steampowered.com which begins:

"Hello,

Your friend Profile (profile@emailservice.co.xx) has given you a gift
subscription to the game SomeGame on Steam"

Cant believe it! No wonder people are getting their accounts broken into and stating "But I never shared any account info!" Well the email is account info!
