Why am I suddeny getting so many duplicate trading cards for my new games?
I have rarely received duplicate trading cards from new games I buy. However three of the three games I've purchased (and played) in the last few weeks have ALL given me duplicate cards, sometimes triplicates. Wt-insert-favorite-expression-here?

Chaos on Deponia (duplicates), Battleblock Theater (triplicates), Enigmatis:Maple Creek (duplicates), and I've got plenty more to go through. Yeah, they're "free" with the game, nothing is truly free though, and yes I can sell them but I'd rather just have all different cards in the first place. With software and item tags there is no reason for duplicates to happen.

Hard to believe it's random given my history with them and the sudden timing. I'm not implying a conspiracy just wondering if I'm the only one noticing this trend of late.

It's random. Part of the randomness woudl allow a user to get rarely any duplicates, and then get duplicates.

All my drops today have been unique. Last month one of my games every drop was the same card.

Seems pointless/unnecessary though. Software could view inventory, dropped cards in inventory would have a special tag and ID#, upcoming drops for that game are checked against inventory and not duplicated (or triplicated). Oh well...

If you've just recently started getting duplicate cards count yourself lucky. I've pretty much gotten duplicates nearly every time since trading cards existed on Steam.

To be honest I think Valve does it to encourage trading and selling.

*counts self lucky* :sm:
I've had duplicates quite a few times (though never any triplicates). I just sell them on the market and buy cards I don't have with the proceeds.

Duplicates promote trading and buying/selling. There's no incentive for them to ensure that you don't get duplicates. It would work against the intended system setup.
