...It says how to dodge the scams/virus links..... Seriously, did you think that the person would try and hack others, or even give them a virus?

I hope no more scams...

Quite often I get people with blocked profiles try to friend me. Every time I do, after a while (days or weeks) That person will send me a message saying something along the lines of "My friend _____ wants to trade with you but [can't add you] www. steamwcommunity .com/yaddayadda" and then that person immediately unfriends me so I can't easily track them down and report them. The steamwcommunity link looks exactly like the Steam site except if you try to login it prompts you to download and install a "verification app" in order to log in. It had actually gotten me the first time (because it seemed reasonable at the time because I was experimenting with installed so the constant email code was getting annoying) but I believe I caught it in time before it did anything and scans still don't show anything.

It is never reasonable to follow a random link, ESPECIALLY if it asks for something.

If a scan does not show anything after an infection, you know why the antivirus didnt protect you from the infection.

I killed the file and rebooted as soon as i realized my error. I've done scans from different programs and even a bootable USB. I'm pretty sure I'm safe.

i guess the only best way to avoid scammer is to avoid trading with someone you dont really know or if any one of your friend is not recommended him/her

And why would people want to open suspicious link ? it is because of idiocy...

First rule....

Never Open the links. Ever. or at least copy and past them to your normal web browser. as opposed to the one in the steam client.

Its not safe at all to click random links. In general.

Well sometimes it can be legit but that's why i say. Open in your usual webbrowser as opposed to the steam one.

Firefox, Chrome and Safari have their own sandboxing safemodes and security buffers built in. and most firewall apps and avs are already watching them carefully.

Most of the hijacked people actually used their browsers, because the hijackers posted the link in a way that circumvents filters.

Its not safer to use a browser to get in touch with malware
