Even if you choose to buy 8TB of SSD, it's half the price if you buy it from Amazon.
No offense m8. But do you really think steam has improved over the last 2 - 3 years? That is ofc a subjective opinon. But the fact steam seems to thing quantity over quality is better, does not bode well imo.
Especially since we are quated in US dollars when i use pounds! I find that seriously offensive regardless of price as it means, to me, that thsi was rushed out without thought so not worth it.
Valve simply rebranded the PC and get money from companies for building them. They do nothing themselves other than the OS. Bit like how Valve changes existing games into key and crate fests, to attract children to gamble for content and how Valve never invests any of it into their infrastructure. Or bit like how Valve rely on other people to create content and Valve take a cut when they use other peoples' designs (and said keys and crates) to leech off of designers. All the while, the Steam content servers suck, the game servers (on games running their servers) and their community servers, are all rather poor.
But you know... Valve, right? Gaben... king n' all, like the kids believe. I still believe good Valve ended in 2009 and decided to use their peak popularity (once realised) to then change the way they ran things.
Wouldn't recommend anyone buy a Steam Box... unless you're an idiot, are grossly wealthy and can afford stupid things (that I wouldn't even deem a luxury), or you're that much of a fanboy to the new gaming evil that you must have their new ideas... or maybe you/they/whoever, just doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥?
Then, in the future VR headsets emerge, grossly overpriced, with grossly overpriced additions for it, like mounts, or cam helms, covers, low res / high res models, etc etc and PC gaming will leap further and further into the greed fest it was always destined to head for. I love PC gaming but as the world dies under capitalism and greed, all things end up being a rich boys adventure... will take a long time to get there, but it's all heading in that way.
For example, the good days of consoles was lost when online gameplay came about... not because of the online gameplay itself but rather because companies saw an opportunity to provide as little effort as possible online (like expensive game downloads, overpriced DLC, "themes" and avatars, etc) but yet milk the consumer. Now consoles are still pushing the "I-want-to-be-a-PC-so-push-graphics-instead-of-gameplay" way of gaming because kids/adults love graphixxxxx so much, yet hello NEXT GEN, how's that 900p at 30fps going for ya? (Xbox One running at 30fps limits already, pff, good luck for the future at 20fps when your hardware can't handle it - not much different for PS4). OH and then there's the milking, ala; online subscription charges, expensive games, still grossly overpriced digital game downloads, expensive peripherals and for what? I'm sure many folks remember gaming in the past, the game was designed for the system and to be fun and that's what made them great. Now PC is at the mercy of console games that are designed for PC architecture but limited by their own mid end console target, then PC finally get a version down the line which is either grossly delayed or horribly unoptimised (obviously not in all cases).
But oh no, ♥♥♥♥! Wall o' text right?
TL:DR? Gaming world is changing for the worst... enjoy it while you can because eventually it is going to be a luxury and a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ one at that anyway. As for the rebranding of the PC (aka Steam Box) and Valve yet again making ideas and earning money for doing almost nothing, I think you'd have to be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ moron to spend a DIME on one, let alone thousands. It's a horrible idea thought up by Valve to satisfy their greed (bit like what they do with their existing games, at the detriment to adult gamers and quality of experience) and unfortunately allows other companies like Dell, Asus and other manufacturers to make these boxes (dare I say hipster boxes?) of stupidity, so that they themselves can also cash in on their desire for yet more money.
Best era? Early PC days + the early console days...
I wonder how many hundreds people are willing to pay for VR... meh...
Peace
Dear Steam, please separate SteamOS advertising and SteamOS sales from the normal Steam. There's no reason to shove it all up in our faces when we don't even use your OS. Make two different clients, one for us and one separate one for SteamOS. I highly doubt PC gamers are going to buy Steam Machines or switch to our OS. The only people I can even see buying them is console players who haven't yet gotten into PC gaming.
Please, please, do not make this the new Google Plus. If we want it, we'll get it. But shoving it down our throats will leave you in the same position Google Plus is in, which is lonely sadness.
never used it before and never will
