Do not attach a debit card to your account! Steam draws small amounts without your permission.
I am new to steam and was going to buy CS-GO. So i attached my debit card to my account to be ready. Bought a cheap game just to test if everthing was ok. It was ok and i was waiting a spring sale discount. But when i look my bank account i saw a small amount of money taken by Steam. Probably just to test my card. But steam did not give it back.

I contact support but it has been 2 days and not even a welcome message came back from them.

So i am warning you about this. My bank account was new so i saw this but maybe many of you did not even notice this in a long bank log. Maybe they don't even pay back this.

*There was absolutely no warning that steam would draw some money from my debit card when i attach one. They never took a confirmation from me.

**Maybe 2-3 dolar is nothing for some of you but go ask any big company that what would happen if they draw 3 dolar from their every customer and pay back it 1 month later. If you are too lazy to do that heres my Iban TR72 0011 1000 0000 0056 2896 70 send me 3$ ,i will pay back them in a month.

The funds are on hold by your bank and should only appear as pending or temporary transactions and will be reversed usually within 5 business days up to a maximum of 10 depending on your country's banking laws and your bank's own policies.

This should only occur if you tried to use the market system and told steam to verify your payment method.

I use debit card not credit card so the funds are already gone from my account.

They'll take longer than two days, unfortunately. It's more like a few days to a few weeks most of the time. Hope you get it sorted soon, though.

I'd suggest not leaving your account information saved at all, anywhere. It might seem tedious when you purchase games but better safe than sorry my friend.

Debit cards can have authorisation holds, it's not only credit cards.

Have you checked with your card company to ask if it's a purchase or just a hold?

Sorry if Im misunderstanding something here, but you bought a game and Steam charged your debit card? Isnt that how things are supposed to work? Or was the money taken out of your bank account in /addition/ to the amount charged for the game you bought?

Edit: Ive had my debit card attached to my account for months at a time, and Ive never noticed any transactions that I didnt authorise.

Credit Card Verification (This applies to Debit Cards as well)
In short: 2 test / verification transactions are done (In some cases you can choose the 2 amounts). Your bank / vendor may hold on to the money for up-to 10 days, after which you will be refunded the cash (to your account).

How do I verify my new credit card?
After using a new credit card on Steam, please go to the Credit Card Verification page and choose the card you wish to verify. Two small pending authorizations will be sent to your bank account. These authorizations may take time to appear on your statement. Once they appear, you may enter the exact unconverted amounts into the fields on the verification page. Please note that you only have three attempts.

:) At times it's usually a petty amount - sometimes under a $1 (in relation to what people may spend on Steam) - however, as a user, that feeling of doubt and betrayal that "Steam stole my money..." - On average: Debit cards can take a little longer vs Credit cards. It's probably a more recent implementation on Steam, and serves the equivalent purpose of a "ping" in the internet world.

AGAIN for the debit debate!
My money is in steams hand already, i already called my bank. Not all credit cards and debit cards work the way you think it works.

Also for the clarification. Used same card on "Google Play" . They draw and pay-back in the same day to test the card.

@ Jonno the games cost was 0.30. Also i can see that payment.

@Nightenhelser
Standart procedure is to payback in the same day Like "Google Play" did!. Taking my money and holding it for months is not a procedure ,a scam.

It's not being held for "months" as you say. It's only been two days.

New cards require validation.
It is already 5 days still no answer from support or paid back. As I said google play also need validation they took and repaid my money in the same day.

I read other forums. They were claiming they were not paid back for over a month and half.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.

Steam doesn't collect the money. Your bank is the one holding it.

For the last time:
My card is debit card directly bound to my bank account. Steam already took that money.

To prove my point if my bank is holding money that is drawn how the hell "google play" pay back the money they did not recive in the same day?

Also ofcourse i called my bank TWICE, they said it is gone.

It's been ~6 days; it should be back in your account within 2 weeks.
