Attention of scam attack
Hello Steam users,

Today I was attacked by scammers who tried to steal my Steam account using a “team attack” (not just one person, but two working together).

I got a friend request from a Steam user named Stella A., who pretended that she had accidentally reported me. She showed me a very realistic screenshot of her chat with “Steam Support,” claiming that if I didn’t confirm the mistake, my account would be banned. She then asked me to contact “Steam Support” on Discord — a user named Ristian Abia (ristian_assistance1).

I decided to play along to see how far they would go. This fake support person asked me to click on the Recovery/Confirmation menu and send him a screenshot of the recovery page — where the security code for my account appears. He also showed me a fake screenshot of my account with a red warning saying I had 36 reports against me (haha).

I let him finish his little scenario, and then I told him I knew from the beginning that he was a scammer. He immediately ran away.

⚠️ Be careful of this scam method! Remember: Steam, Microsoft, or any official support will never contact you via Messenger, Discord, or similar platforms. They only communicate through official channels like email. Always check the domain of the email address, and never share your private information.

These scammers are getting creative — don’t trust them.

That is an old and common scam
It is a process too report someone (a few clicks) so you cannot report someone on accident. I would not say the scammers are getting creative! i would say they are getting dumber. Steam will not contact you via your messenger, no accident report, fake screenshots of an account when anyone can go check for themselves. Honestly their methods are a great way for them too take themselves down.... they always leave a trail.

This scam is so old that it already has its own support article :hp_kyu:.

Scam: I Have Been Reported and Will Be Banned

Valve employees will never communicate with you about your account using any chat system including Steam Chat and Discord.
