50 dollar steam gift card link, that actually, genuinely looks legit; but is it?
I received a message today from someone I know on Discord (we talked about F1 game modding) with a link pertaining to a $50 steam gift.

Now it has been a few months since we last talked, so it did come as a surprise and I immediately went looking for how to spot fake gift cards; usually, phising type links have URLs that aren't correct or are mostly correct but have intentional typos that are easy to miss, etc. But this link looked legit, at least after proofreading it - no typos, no number strings, nothing. It reads:

steamcommunity.com/gift-card/pay/50

Now, the big question: is this a real link, or have I been subjected to what a more keen-eyed scam detective may instantly spot as a scam? All inputs are appreciated.

No it's a scam
Obvious scam. Your "friend" had their account hijacked from the same method.

They just disguised the link on discord. The link would have lead you somewhere different then the text says.
Gift cards are never sent through chat. They have their own specific notification and it takes you to your inventory, where the Pending Gift can be seen.

The amounts might be different but the scam/phishing is the same.

Nothing is free in this world
Of course it's a scam, ain't no one ever gonna just give you $50 out of the blue.
