ERROR "steamwebhelper.exe, a critical Steam component, is not responding. The Steam UI will not be usable"
This message kept popping up and preventing me from using steam for the past 2 weeks. Sometimes restarting the pc worked, but today nothing at all worked. I tried all the go delete this or that file, or move these files around, or the roll back your drivers tips and none of them worked. I went so far as to reinstall windows and reformat all my drives with a complete system wipe. The problem followed and persisted.

After some digging around and searching in different places again I decided to look at a youtube video about this problem and one of the comments is what actually had the answer. Several other people commented that they used the ASUS Armory Crate app and said it was the problem for them

They were right, uninstalled Armory Crate. Steam immediately worked and hasn't had the error after several restarts or installing other games and gaming apps, windows updates, and video drivers.

So anyone else having this problem and is also using the Armory Crate app try uninstalling it if the other fixes didn't do anything.

I'm mostly posting this so anyone that was as annoyed as me will hopefuly have this show up when they google or search the discussions.

I've been having this problem for more than a month.

I did the basic trouble shooting:
- Restart Steam
- Restart PC
- Restart Internet Modem
- Switched from Lan to WiFi
- Restart Steam with GPU Acceleration disabled
- Restart Steam with Browser Sandboxing disabled
- Restart steamwebhelper

I did everything you did:
- clean install a Windows 10 Operating System, this includes a clean installation of Steam
- installed and updated necessary drivers
- ran Windows 10 updates 'til it is fully updated today
- I do not have, and never installed Armoury Crate. I even checked my whole system if it installs Armoury Crate by default, and no, I do not have it
- add anti-virus exception to Steam folder, steamwebhelper.exe, and Steam.exe
- clear webhelper cache
- clear steam cache

I also did the Task Manager > Suspend Process:
- Opened Resource Monitor
- End Task All Steam related applications
- Open Steam
- Immediately Suspend Process steam.exe in Resource Monitor
- Waited 1-2 mins, and even 5-10 mins
- Resume Process the steam.exe application

I've been frustrated by this issue for more than a month now, and there are no fixes that I seem to find online.

What's more frustrating is that I have a decent PC specs:
Ryzen 7 5800X
RTX 3070
32GB RAM
2pcs 500GB SATA SSDs
1pc 500GB NVMe 3.0 SSD
1pc 1TB NVMe 4.0 SSD
2pc 1TB SATA HDD

To add, my internet speed reaches up to 960 Mb/s. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY IS THIS HAPPENING IN MY SYSTEM.

I hope someone can help. Thank you.

Just a shot in the dark but I'll still mention it... Try disabling hardware acceleration in Steam options.

Have the exact same problem. NOTHING works. Don't have Asus armory crate. Can't even start Steam so impossible to play with options into Steam. The problem began exactly after I updated the steam client a few days ago. For a while, restarting steam after killing all the processes and services did the job, but now, nothing works! I suspect the problem lies within the nex client but its impossible to run an old client... (Thanks Steam). So now i'm stuck, unable to play any game (Thanks Steam).
stable or beta... no problems here..

hello
the main problem i see here is that if you have issue with hardware acceleration is that you can't log to your steam account to be able to change this setting because steamwebhelper.exe need to run for that ..

Has anyone been able to resolve this? I've tried everything above and I'm still getting the same error. I've been unable to play for almost 6 months now. I'm very frustrated.

I removed Steam from automatic startup on Windows 11. That seems to fix the steamwebhelper error I would get every other day.

I have tried changing the compability mode, run as administrator, desinstalling and reinstalling in a different path, make the antivirus ignore it, unistalling Armory crate and also try all the options that are showned when the error message is display, nothing has worked so far

I have an asus TUF with 16gb RAM, NVIDIA RTX 3060
