Whenever you are look at the reviews of a game on steam, goto the top and set the played time to over 2 hours. I've found over the years this gives you a much better representation of what people really think of the game. Lately we "controversial" games it has given me a much better perspective. There are many new games that have an overall mixed rating and are 80% positive if you set the played timer to 3 hours played. As always this doesn't mean you definitely gonna enjoy the game or hate it, but it does help when trying to decide. Always read the reviews, watch people play(most important) and decide yourself.
