They hope to gain your items.

They would have had you speak to a "steam support agent", who is really the scammer or someone else in league with the scammer. This person would have used fear tactics to get you to respond emotionally for fear of losing your account. They would have told you to transfer your items to a "storage account" so they could "verify" the items before returning them. The thing is, they would never return those items and you would be at a loss. Valve does not restore items traded even if you were fooled into trading them away.
The Microsoft phone scam, amuses me every time.

Oh they have used all sorts, like "Microsoft Defender Team", "WIndows Help Desk", even more amusing is when you tell them you don't own a "Windows Computer" and they start harping on about how they cover "Apple" as well.

I have had them swearing and making all sorts of accusations down the phone.

Capitalism is my favorite scam.

Get a degree(a real one in STEM too, not some bachelors of arts), work your whole life, pay taxes, generate real GDP from products and services, not just inflating numbers on assets with no value added; all so you can have your pension disappear on a billionaire's whim, and then not be able to afford anything when you're old and cripple.

Ripping someone off one time for a few hundred, or even a few thousand dollars; thats junior league. Ripping someone off their whole life to the tune of millions in surplus labor value, getting them to convince their children to let it happen to them too, then leaving their body broken and soul empty - now thats a scam.

I get around 20 phone calls a day from scammers, I started putting my phone on DND with only contacts coming through. When I have it off I answer the phone with random ideas, "[COUNTY] Abortion clinic, this is Frank Speaking"

or when it's one of those asking my age, I heighten my voice and go, "I dunno I'm 13." Then they get mad and I go, "You called me"

Ya know it wasn't meant to be that way. Capitalism isn't meant to mess us up. You do something for money, you should be paid what it's worth. But the gov has made it impossible to do so. Especially allowing big ass colleges to charge what they want, not to mention hospitals.

I make tails on etsy. One day I decided to wear this long light pink one out in town. I'm getting compliments left and right and this guy asks me how much would I charge, I say something like maybe 75 or 100. He says I should sell it for AT LEAST 200. I thought to myself sure why not but I dont like overcharging for things if I do things for people. But I get the point.
Only ones I've been getting lately are the "vote for my skin/cosmetic" bot.

Which sucks cause as bots i can't troll them

I've yet to see a scam that's fun to run into. They're all absolutely transparent, unimaginative, boring. I'd like to see an interesting scam! Something exciting, something someone real put though into.

... which, of course, won't happen. Every day, a new fool wakes up and there's no point in pouromg effort if you can do the cheap thing with success.

From the gullible, any or all of the following (as far as Steam based scams go): Steam account, items, Steam wallet balance, and Steam friend list, etc.

I don't really have a "favorite" scam.

I just find it kind of funny when a scammer uses ridiculous job titles like "Fraud Officer".

There is even an official Support page about this scam, by the way.

I mean in a way you get the mess with them. When they get pissy at you for messing up their scam.

"We are calling you about your health care plan, can you confirm your information"
"What's the information in front of you?"
"Well I" *CLICK*

Interestingly enough, I've never gotten one of those scams where they use an obvious fake title. I always get the healthcare and car warranty ones. Lately I get this cop one where they are asking people for donations. I hang up.

Not a scam per se but I did see someone want unbanned from a game because the “accidently” cheated

My favorite is when they say that they didn't cheat on a specific day but still got banned for cheating, implying that they cheated on every other day than the one they felt the need to specifically mention.
