You can essentially PAY for levels on your steam account, so it's just an ego thing and should be ignored, if not frowned upon by actual gamers.
Play your games and forget it's there
Essentially? You earn points with every store purchase. This is well known. High level means you're not an actual gamer? I've been playing video games since 1979. You?
They're limited, so at some point you have to start buying the remaining cards, that's how they get you.
Levels are irrelevant, someone can be level 1000 on steam and can still be THE worst gamer in existence. It's just a flex for people that thing money = skill or "being cool"
It's a relative statement because it's shared, but don't worry. Unlike some people I'm not here to argue, have a nice day
Beyond that, steam level is purely a vanity thing. If you want to chase a higher level that's perfectly fine, but you shouldn't do so unless you just love making numbers bigger.
Back in the day a lot of people would ask that anyone trying to do matchmaking in some games, needed to be level 21 or higher in order for your profile to be more trustworthy to other players
It was arbitrarily set number by one of the gaming communities, and it's been a decade since this requirement was randomly invented by this gaming community. I think it was picked due to the fact that people who wanted to unlock a lifetime sub for higher priority matchmaking, needed to get to level 21 in the actual game itself
For this same game community to trust people's profiles today, they likely want to see lvl 30 or higher.
For most people in this gaming community; anything over 75-80 is sus.
If you add too many, it becomes sus again in some cases...and someone trying to look like an honest person will start to look like a pro scammer or just someone with a zillion alts, like one steam profile that was high triple digit level that idiotically added all their alts to their own friends list, lol.
So after I saw that hilarious profile I stopped trusting super high level steam profiles
I actually like the new option (Well idk how old it is now lol) where you select a badge and complete the badge by purchasing the remaining cards on the market, bonus is it also shows you what cards your friends got.
Idk how many people think that having a high level means they're a "better" gamer or more skilled. It's just numbers going up. I worked on a badge in particular because each badge level had an icon and a name, so I display it on my profile by my username, further customization. It's "Ork Boy". Good stuff if you ask me.
Where do you get these notions? Simply liking making badges and showcases does not make someone "sus".
Give up the idea of leveling up on Steam while you can, it's like eating sweet cotton candy. The moment you start, the moment you will be insane with your gems.
