Confused - X-box, PlayStation, PC, controllers, Steam
OK, I'm 76, so be gentle! I'm wanting to get back into gaming playing stuff like Quake, Journey, Age of Empires. I'm playing on my laptop at present with a cheap controller but want a better experience. I always play single player. I'm not sure whether to go X-box with a game pass, or PlayStation. I know I can get specific help on YouTube, but just wondered if anyone had any general suggestions. Tia.

Well, for one, make sure the games you want to play, can be played with a controller at all. I don't know if Age of Empires can be played with a controller.

Next, i have big hands, and so for those like myself with larger hands, i find the Xbox 360 and PS3 era controller to my liking, being the joysticks are wider, and the controllers less sensitive.

For those with smaller hands, the newer PS and Xbox controllers that have smaller joysticks and are very sensitive may be the way to go imo.
Strategic games such as Ages of Empires are better on the PC due to having a mouse. Most Playstation and Xbox controllers will work on the PC. If your playing a single player game, it is not a big deal, but if you want to play multiplayer game, the consoles require additional money for the privilege of playing online.

That being said, due to graphic cards being expensive, the consoles are a better deal in the short term. Really the Xbox and Playstation are pretty similar, so it depends if you like one controller or if there is any exclusive you want.

I mean the first question is what platform the games you want to play are on. Consoles can be more limited in games, and you can't play the older stuff, but its simpler and more plug and play, and if your not getting the most recent console can be a lot cheaper.

PC's you have a lot more options including games going back 30+ years but it can take some more work to get older games running. it can also be cheap or expensive based on what generation of games you want to play

Thanks for you input, I tend to overthink things, but really I just need to make sure the games I want to play will play on whichever console I buy. Simple!

Yep, its all about the games as the most comfortable system in the world is nothing but a paperweight if it doesnt have anything you want to play.
Game Pass may be best as it's quite cheap and you get a huge amount of games to play with and try. You can get it for PC or on an Xbox console.

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition was also released for X-box and at least that version can be played with a controller :steamhappy:.
I prefer the PS5 and the games on it. But game pass is a very good offer and even must admit that.

Is that right? I thought that came out on "PC Game Pass", which may not be controller compatible. But it's great news if it is.
