It's the same sort of thing as RDR2 winning Labor of Love last year, that specific award is pretty much equal parts popularity contest and meme bait, you shouldn't think too hard about it.

I keep nominating them. There has been no other game that has received the constant attention that Hello Games has given NMS. However, I fear there is still too much resentment left behind from launch that doesn't allow it to overcome whatever the new hotness is each year.

Look at the steam charts for Stardew, it totally deserved to win this.

This year its actually had its highest playercount ever, beating its launch player count and all counts its had over the years.

Its a true Labor of Love
