Steam Winter Wonderland Giveaway - 20$ Value Steam Gift Cards Scam
Anyone else get from a friend associcated to your account that they gave you a link that sends you to a webpage that says 251,400 of 300,000 gift cards have already been redeemed.

That means over 200,000 steam accounts have been hi-jacked

It's true because a friend of mine got hi-jacked.

It doesn't mean over 200,000 have been hijacked, they can make up any number they want afterall. Just ignore, report and move on.

They're always going to show you some number close to the max so you feel like you're about to miss out and need to hurry, it's all a part of the scam.
on the webpage the numbers were hoing like that

200,000
200,002
200,003
200,007
200,010

which means people have been constantly
the numbers were counting up

Yeah. It's meant to make you rush into claiming yours before they're all gone and to give legitimacy to the scam.

It's not hard to programme stuff to do that.
Yes but that means their authenticating fraud and steam seriously needs to do something before their replaced by a Authenticate Fraud Steam Platform.
If you ever see a browser called Steam immediately report it.

Steam is not responsible for people doing known scams or doing stupid things. Only the account owner is responsible for their steam account security.

No. It means they just have a counter pretending people are claiming them to lure in the gullible people.

No, it just means a website has a counter periodically ticking up. You can set that up in seconds to have a counter keep ticking up and I can claim it represents anything. It doesn't mean people are actually being compromised. Its just a ploy to make you think the cards are in danger of running out so you act quickly without thinking.

Also there is nothing Steam can do about people falling for scams outside of steam. They already issue numerous warnings.

You thinking over 200k people fell for the scam is wild, you're a funny dude :)

Anyways, If you can't be bother to learn how actually these scams work your can set your steam mobile authenticator, with that extra security is impossible for you to fall into these scams

While it helps, it is still possible to allow their accounts to be hijacked through these scams even with the mobile authenticator. It's better to learn how to recognize these scams and avoid them altogether.
