PC in general is becoming more expensive than rent money.
So, I have a very outdated graphics card, the 1050 TI, and now they're discontinuing the GTX cards. I feel like gaming in general is just getting worse and even more expensive. The new Indiana Jones game, is just a really expensive movie with one button pressing. Heck, you can't even run it on GTX cards now. DLSS is stupid and so is Ray Tracing, well I don't understand it and I don't have a 8K TV so that's dumb and pointless. I personally feel like gaming industry is slowly dying. I've been so bored lately of video games, i don't even know what good games exist anymore. I just am disappointed on PC. Kinda of thinking of going back to console.

My daughter, working her first retail job, can afford to get herself a new gaming laptop, any Steam games she wants, and even buy her old man a massaging pad for his chair and car, and still pay her car insurance to boot. Yeah, people crying about PC gaming are full of it.

"Only 2800 dollars". We do realize, in this household, i have had to spend double that just on a surgery i had, with medicare and other insurance.

Americans are paying literally THOUSANDS of dollars on medical costs, rents, utilities and other necessites.

This the result...

We do not have free healthcare. We do not have free housing, or retire at 50.

We cannot afford thousands of dollars in computers to play games at 4k and 1000 frames a second sir. It makes no sense under the circumstances.

But thank you for the suggestion.
I've had bills in the millions.

Well, then write a book. But the average American is not spending three grand to play video games on a computer.

without the RGB etc,

Really need that RGB lighting though... it just looks so neat!

There won't be a Steam gaming console. The new SteamOS that people were leaking, we already found the reason. It's to put it on non Valve Handheld devices. Lenuvo being the test bed right now.

saying Steam won't release a console? At the direction they are going I wouldn't be surprised if we won't someday see Steam banking, Debit, mortgage, or life insurance

Building the Best Gaming PC without the RGB etc, would only cost $2800 right now before price drops. That's 9800X3D, 4090, 32GB of ram. And would last far far longer than any budget build, and would only need replacing in 5-8 years.

Why you build high, to let it last.

There's a reason why people are disappointed in consoles. They promise performance, and don't deliver. Example, PS5 Pro, 8K Gaming! Rawr! Reality? Upscaled 1900p or worse, to 4K. And still unable to hit 60 FPS.

When ya strip away the marketing from console gaming, ya see it's not what you expect it should be. And that's expected, since no way can you make a console as powerful as a PC with similar performance.

Retirement is actually 65.

Also, PC gaming has always been a hobby. It's a luxury expense. If people couldn't afford computers, the PC market wouldn't be constsntly growing.

Don't need to write a book, maybe you should about your struggles, then can publish it and get extra income if it sells. Would help you financially since like to type a lot.

As for how much Americans spend on PC gaming, most build mid ranged, not lowest end. Mid ranged lasts 3-5 years in most cases, and not 3 grand. Most also game at 1080p, which oddly looks better than many console games at their fake 4K lol.

They aren't.

That's for some of the higher end hardware, not the average consumer. The average consumer has never forked thousands over for a gaming PC.

The average mid-range can easily be done for just over 1k. Even cheaper if you actually shop around.

Yep. I personally stick to high end, since use my PC for more than just gaming. That and high end just fits better for my needs, giving me a larger buffer time before need to fully upgrade.

I never do a full upgrade at once. I do it piece by piece over the course of a year or two.

Makes it easier to find stuff on sale.

I think the retire at 50 might be directed towards me because I told him I was retired at 54 the other week.
The 1050 ti is a pretty solid card even today
Unless you're really into raytracing most bodern cards aren't worth it.

PC gaming has always been about cost vs fidelity. If you are fine with the settings on medium and the frame rate at 90 then y gaming is pretty damned inexpensive.

On tthe other hand.....if you have to have a 144fps at ultra 8k... yeah you gonna be selling a kidney or three.

Also what a missed opportunity for Steam, would be awesome to have a Steam Deck with RGB on it.
